it was night time and there was a cool breeze. ashton was manning the fire while we were making smores. as we let our little marshmallow cook about the flame, i leaned on michael as i hummed to the music that was being played on the speaker.

ever since calum had told us that luke talked about me, it wouldnt leave my mind, giving me hope that i could have a chance. but, even if i did, i couldnt do that to daisy.
"do you want another smore leia?" daisy asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"oh, uh, nah im good." i shook my head and moved close to the fire, watching the flames.
"cal, could i play your guitar?" i heard luke say. i didnt want to look up.
"sure, here you go." luke took it in his hands, strumming and checking if it was in tune.
he then straightened out his throat. "ladies and gentlemen, i would like to sing a little song and dedicate to my lovely daisy."
my body froze and i tore my eyes away from the fire and looked up at him. he had one leg on the bonfire pit to keep his balance, facing her.
his fingers strummed the strings into a beautiful melody and daisy had the biggest smile on her face. if only that was me.

the lyrics i instantly knew, it was with or without by u2. this song was my parents favorite song, the song they danced the day they got married to. the song my dad would play and sing to me and my mom when it was just us. and now luke was singing it to my best friend.

he turned his head and looked at me but quickly looked away and back at daisy. it hurt. it was as if lasers were shot in my heart.

i felt a tear roll off my cheek. i couldnt handle it. i got up and ran. i didnt stop running as tears blew in the wind as my legs took me as far they could. i could here michael scream after me but i didnt want him. i didnt want michael, i didnt want calum i didnt want ashton-i wanted luke. thats all i wanted and id be happy.
i was out of breath but i kept running. it wasnt until i reached the end of the beach was when i finally stopped running, collapsing on the sand, crying my heart out.
the waves came washing up, back and forth. i watched it with blurry vision. i shouldnt have gone to this. i knew it.
it felt like i had sat there for hours but it was probably only minuets. i heard someone walking.
"leia? you okay? you scared everyone." i heard ashtons voice. he sat next to me and put an arm around my shoulder.
"sorry, i didnt mean to make a scene." i said softly and looked down at the sand.
"tell me whats up." he said and i saw him smile at me.
"i just-" i took a deep breath, staring at the waves. "daisy's my best friend and i like luke so much. and it didnt help that the song he sang has personal attachment to me. not that he knows, he doesnt but-it hit right to home." i just sighed and tears began to roll down my cheeks again.
"you just need a hug." ash said and pulled me into his arms. he squeezed my body softly, i held on to him tight, crying into the crook of his neck.
"im so sorry luke did this to you. you dont deserve it." he said softly.
"no its my fault for being stupid." i laughed lightly threw my tears. "i knew what i was getting into."
i pulled a little and looked at him. he got my sleeve, wiping my cheeks. "you still look lovely." he smiled and i laughed.
"shut up i look disgusting." i rolled my bloodshot eyes and sat up.
"you wanna walk?" he asked. i nodded and he sat up too now. we walked along the beach talking about whatever. when we reached the bonfire area, i swallowed and looked at ashton.
"hey if you dont wanna go over there, ill tell michael and you guys can go home." he put his hand on my arm, rubbing it.
"id like that. i should be getting home anyways." i said softly, looking at my feet. he move closer to me, putting my chin up. i looked into his hazel eyes and he smiled at me.
"you're beautiful leia." he said softly and i felt my cheeks heat up.
"thank you." i said shyly.
he grabbed my hand and kissed it before walking over the guys. i watched from afar. i saw daisy come over. fuck.
"leia, what happened?" she looked worried.
"uh, i dont really wanna talk about it right now." i said looking away.
she frowned and nodded softly. "are you going?"
"yeah. its late and i still need to take michael home anyways. sorry i ruined your bon fire." i frowned.
"shut up, you didn't ruin it." she chuckled and hugged me. i hugged her back. "text me tomorrow?" she asked and i nodded. she waved and walked back to the others.
michael calling over for me to come so i joggled over to him. when i made it to him, he handed me my things then headed to my car.
"you good?" he asked.
"i just want to go fucking home." i sighed as he nodded as we finally ended this shitty day.
