2 weeks till Graduation
I nervously walk downstairs in my apartment complex to my mailbox. My messages were blowing up this morning from my friends telling me they received their UCLA letters. I flip through multiple magazines and smile when I see my letter from Yale. Behind that one, I find my letter from UCLA.
After locking my box, I practically run to my apartment. I prop my phone with my PopSocket, on the kitchen counter. Before calling my friends, I open my letter to Yale. My eyes skim through the letter and I got in. It didn't hit me until I read the letter again.
"Dad, I got into Yale," I say looking up at the ceiling. I know he is smiling down on me as I reach for my UCLA letter. I start a group FaceTime with Nova, Coco, and Reid. "You lovies ready?" We all show our unopened letters in the camera. "Great, on three." We all join in on Reid counting down. When we hit three, the sound of paper ripping is heard multiple times.
I undo the seal and pull out the letter. I realize I'm really behind my friends when they start yelling that they got in. I open my letter with shaking hands.
Dear Cahlia Robinson, we are pleased to congratulate you on being accepted into the University of California at Los Angles 2018 Freshman Class.
"Hell yeah!" I yell, getting up and jumping around. "We're going to UCLA bitches!" Nova yells from my phone and we all start screaming even louder.
Once the news sets in, I sit back down at the counter. "I'll see you guys in a few minutes. I have to call Bryce." We each blow kisses in the camera before saying goodbye. I immediately type in Bryce's number because I know it by heart. He answers on the first ring.
"Hey, babe, I'm on the way now." I smile when I hear Michael Jackson playing in the background. "I got in. I got in, Bryce," I stuttered into the phone.
A pause is heard before he yells "my baby's a fucking genius."
I burst out laughing. "I'm serious, that's amazing, Lia." A proud smile covers my face. "Thanks, babe. Hurry up and get here, but carefully hurry." Bryce laughs and tells me he's right around the corner.
When we hang-up, I throw on my dress I'm wearing to the baby shower. I check on my makeup that I did before I went to go get the mail. I walk into my closet and put on my tanned, thick heeled, sandals. I scan my flowing, orange, flowery dressed in the full-body mirror when I hear the doorbell ring.
I run to the door, quickly unlocking it. I grab the boxes out of Bryce's hands and place them on the counter. Once he locks the door, Bryce wraps his arms around me and picks me up. I wrap my legs tightly around his stomach and scream.
"I'm so proud of you, baby girl," he says into my ear. I place my arms around his neck and lean back to kiss him. "You two, babe. Every school that you visited offered you a full-ride football scholarship." We kiss again, but slower this time.
