Sherlock POV: Sherlock had known deep down that there would be a consequence involved with skipping three consecutive days of school. Even if the school board did believe the flu story (which there was actually a high chance they wouldn't) he still knew that they hated him enough to retaliate for his not being there. So of course, when it was announced that he was going to be monitoring detention on Monday night it came as no surprise and yet still managed to upset him. They didn't tell him much about who he was watching or why, however he knew that there was only one kid and that since they were in detention they were probably bad news. He hated watching the bad kids, mostly because all the bad kids were in love with him. Well, all the kids were in love with him; however it was mostly the bad kids that tried to do anything about it. So of course he was bound to be spending a very awkward two hours stuck alone with a girl that batted her eyelashes at him instead of doing the homework she was most likely supposed to be doing.
"Janine I'll be out late tonight, they've got me on detention duty at six." Sherlock murmured as he buttoned up his shirt, getting ready for the day in the morning darkness. Janine never liked the lights turned on, and if Sherlock had been the one sleeping on the couch then he would have certainly come in the bedroom and turned on the lights to irritate her, however since he was the one in the bed and she was the one in the couch it was all he could do but yell across the house so as to annoy her.
"Will you be back from school at your normal hour?" she called back, sounding as if she was awake before he had begun to shout.
"Ya, I guess." Sherlock shrugged. He pulled on his jacket over his shirt, hiding how small it was and how thin he was, and went out into the kitchen for some breakfast.
"It's amazing how well you clean up. You go from street trash to an intellectual in like two minutes." Janine commented, rolling over on the couch and trying to pull the blankets that were caught underneath her up to her chin.
"Well that's the good thing about a wardrobe and natural beauty." Sherlock snapped. "You should try it sometime."
"Oh, as if I'd ever get a job." Janine laughed, to which Sherlock just shook his head angrily.
"You know, Janine, when I divorce you you'll be left with nothing." Sherlock reminded her.
"Nope, we'll split the bank account in half, remember? I'll get half of all you own." Janine taunted, to which Sherlock just rolled his eyes miserably.
"I'm sure I'll hold that up in the court room." Sherlock growled, to which Janine just shrugged innocently and rolled over once more. Sherlock enjoyed (that was a broad term) a bowl of stale Corn Flakes at the kitchen table, turning over the old batteries in the TV remote so that he could continually turn it up. This was his favorite morning routine, trying to wake Janine in the most seemingly innocent of ways. He could claim that he couldn't hear the TV; all the while he was deliberately trying to sabotage her sleeping in. As much as Sherlock loved it when she was passed out and unresponsive he always thought it wasn't fair when she got to sleep in and she didn't. He worked so hard at school and yet how was he rewarded? He had to get up at six o'clock, that's how!
"Sherlock can you please turn down the TV?" Janine whined from the living room, to which Sherlock just nodded and turned it up once more.
"I said down, you prick!" Janine cried.
"I'm sorry Janine, I'm having a hard time hearing the news reporter, they whisper you know!" Sherlock called back, however at this point the TV was so loud that he could barely hear himself.
"They're basically screaming at this point, turn it down or Mrs. Hudson is going to bump up the rent again!" Janine yelled.
"That was not my fault; she bumped it up because you were the one always shouting!" Sherlock defended.
"And this time it will be your fault, because you've got the TV up so loud the neighbors across the street could hear clearly!" Janine yelled. Sherlock sighed heavily, shaking his head innocently before just turning off the TV all together. He would rather cease his enjoyment than obey his wife, and so he got to his feet and dumped out the rest of his cereal, pulling on his shoes and donning his trench coat moodily.
"Maybe I won't come back, I don't know. Maybe I'll go get some coffee." Sherlock murmured.
"What, between school and detention?" Janine wondered. "We've got coffee here."
"Ya, but you're also here." Sherlock pointed out with a grimace.
"Oh stop it Sherlock, you're being so childish this morning!" Janine whined.
"And you're so lazy all of the time!" Sherlock defended.
"That's not a good defense at all!" Janine insisted.
"Goodbye Janine, have a nice day." Sherlock said very monotonously, as if he knew he had to say that for formalities' sakes and yet he really didn't think she deserved such a well-wishing.
"Goodbye Sherlock, have a nice day at school. I'll be here when you get back." Janine promised.
"Oh I'm sure you will." Sherlock growled, grabbing his laptop case and starting out the door just in time, for as soon as he shut the door he heard what sounded like an empty bottle of beer smashing against the door, the door that very well could've been his head not seconds before. Oh she really was so unappreciative. When Sherlock arrived at school the students had yet to arrive, and yet he could already hear high heels approaching his room down the hallway, someone was on the prowl. Now of course without students in the halls he knew that there was only one other person that might try to confront him, and so when Molly Hooper knocked on the door he really wasn't surprised.
"Yes, Molly what is it?" Sherlock wondered with a sigh.
"I'm here with your detention notice." Molly said proudly, holding a blue sheet of paper with a smile.
"Yes I know, I already got the email. And even though I'm the instructor something tells me that I'm being put in detention as well." Sherlock grumbled.
"Well this gives you more information about the student and whatnot, what he did and what to make him do. They've got all sorts of busy work in the office, you just need to go and ask." Molly said with a shrug.
"And why, Molly, are you the one giving me this?" Sherlock wondered.
"Oh it was on the printer. I guess they were just waiting for someone who cared to deliver it." Molly said with a shrug. Sherlock sighed heavily, snagging the paper out of her hand with a grumble.
"Everyone here hates me." Sherlock said confidently.
"Not me!" Molly defended with a smile.
"Most everyone here hates me." Sherlock corrected, and this time Molly really couldn't say anything to disprove him. They both sort of knew that he was right.
"Well there's easy ways to correct that." Molly assured, however Sherlock really wasn't listening. In fact, the information on this stupid little sheet of paper was to clear whatever dark clouds there were from his head, for the miseries of detention were washed away with that one name, printed in bold at the top.
"I'm to watch John Watson." Sherlock said in something of a breath, mostly to himself of course.
"Oh John? He's...well he's an odd kid, certainly." Molly muttered, evidently not understanding why this proved to be such a privilege.
"Yes but I can tolerate him, to an extent. This is good news Molly, very good news. I had rather thought I'd be stuck with Jim Moriarty." Sherlock admitted with a sneer.
"Oh, he scares me." Molly admitted in a small little voice, as if she was ashamed to admit it.
"He scares everyone, Molly, that's why I didn't want to be stuck with him for two hours." Sherlock agreed with a laugh. Oh, John Watson, a whole two hours with John Watson! Well that had its advantages of course; he got to see him more often, so that was good. And yet that also meant that they would be alone, together...for two whole hours. What was going to become of it? Oh with Sherlock having finally admitted to himself the feelings he had for that man, well what was going to happen? Nothing, surely, or at least nothing he was going to initiate. And yet still, he sort of felt that maybe John felt the same way. He had that sneaking suspicion, the one he didn't want to ignore, that was telling him that John's attention towards him meant something, if not everything.
"Well I think I hear the students coming now...Have a nice day Sherlock, a do try not to be too hard on them. They're just little cherubs, after all." Molly said with a soft smile.
"They are not cherubs, they are demons!" Sherlock defended rather loudly, to which Molly just frowned.
"See this is the difference between you and me." she decided thoughtfully.
"Yep, that's the only thing that separates us." Sherlock agreed rather mockingly.
"No, no I mean that you're pessimistic..."
"And you're blind." Sherlock offered with a careful smile.
"Oh, I cannot believe I tolerate you." Molly growled.
"Love you too." Sherlock said with a taunting little smile. Molly sighed heavily, crossing her arms and shaking her head like the judgmental mother she had grown to be.
"Like I said before, have a nice day Sherlock. I'll see you at lunch." Molly murmured, and with that she marched out of the room, most likely having hoped for a goodbye from Sherlock as well and yet he failed to deliver. He instead sat at his desk and stared at the blue detention notice, staring at the name written at the top, and smiling a little bit to himself. He could already tell that today was going to be a great day.
