Chapter 3

Minerva groaned as she was involuntarily pulled out of slumber by intrusive rays of sun that conveniently landed right on her face.  In a senseless attempt to stay asleep she raised her hand to try and block the rays from her eyes, but the peeving beams seemed to seep through the crevices of her fingers.  She grunted and threw the duvet over her head, in her youth she was a morning person, she would wake up at the crack of dawn to watch the sun rise, but as she aged it became evident that she was definitely not a morning person any more, in fact she hated them.

Luckily it was Saturday so she wouldn't need to be anywhere or do anything except finish that futile paperwork.  She wanted to lay in bed all day, and her lazy brain was reluctantly agreeing with the thought but it was crucial she finished all the work assigned to her and handed it into Albus as soon as possible.  Yawning she rubbed the grogginess of her eyes away with the palms of her hands, throwing the duvet off her head she swung her legs over the side of the bed and heaved herself upright onto her feet.   Her stomach growled rather ferociously, she looked over to the small clock on the vanity in her room, it was 11:30 am she had missed breakfast in the Great Hall.

She sat down in-front of the vanity in her bedroom and began to brush out her long black hair.  She twisted it up into a lose bun and pinned it in its usual style, she yawned and got up headed for the closet to grab her robe.  Minerva figured majority of students would be off school grounds enjoying weekend festivities so she wouldn't need to get dressed yet.   After tying the robe around her waist she headed down to the kitchen to get something to eat.

She took most the secret passageways to the kitchen trying to avoid as many human interactions as possible.  When she arrived much to her luck the kitchen was empty aside from a few house elf's cleaning up.

"Good morning Mrs. Mcgonagall whats can I get you..." A soft voice of a female house elf asked with a small smile on her face.

"Good Morning....Maybe just some eggs and toast please..." She asked sitting down lazily on a stool at a table located in the middle of the kitchen.   The elf beamed and nodded off to the fridge to retrieve eggs.

"tea Mrs.Mcgonagall?" Another elf asked sliding a cup over to Minerva.  She smiled and nodded as the elf proceeded to pour the freshly brewed tea into her cup.

Minerva heard all the elf's gasp and stop what they were doing. In unison they all said "Good Morning Headmaster."  Minerva's eyes widened

"why now! why why I look awful....bloody hell!!" She thought to herself she wanted to run out of there, but she knew that was a childish decision and quickly dismissed the passing thought.

"Please don't stop for me!" He said smiling at all the kitchen elf's and they all began to work again.   Minerva finally decided to look up and knowledge Albus.

"Why, Good morning Professor Mcgonagall." He said taking a seat on the opposite side of the table.  Minerva gulped as his blue eyes gazed into hers.

"Good Morning." She replied taking a sip of tea trying to conceal her flushed cheeks.

"What are you having?" He asked looking over to the elf at the stove.  "ahhh eggs and toast.  I will have the same!" He told the elf and she nodded.   There were a few moments of silence and Minerva tried to keep her eyes on the table.

"So how are you getting along here?" He asked.  She looked up and groaned mentally.

"Well...teaching is going well...but the amount of paperwork my word..." She answered smiling.  Albus chuckled and shook his head. She focused on what he was wearing, it appeared he was in a form of sleeping attire as well and his hair was a bit disheveled.  She smiled, her best guess was he just woke up himself which made her relax a little more.

"It is a lot...I should look into changing that." He said seeming to drift into thought.  Minerva smiled, then turned her attention to the plate being pushed in-front of her, she thanked the elf and wasted no time digging into her food, she was absolutely ravenous.

Busy with her food she didn't realize Albus was admiring her from the other end of the table, he couldn't help but stare at her.  Her silky black hair and the way it cascaded down her back and over her shoulders contrasting against her fair skin.  When she turns to look her eyes are glittery like the brightest emeralds in the strongest of sunlight,  then when smiles, so genuinely cloying with just the right touch of timidity, unexpected warmth and yearning rushes through him.

He always felt this special connection with her but their relationship could be nothing more than co-workers...maybe he wanted more? His mind was at a constant battle over her, but he could never tell her.  His thoughts were abruptly interrupted when she looked up at him, they were locked into an intimate staring contest.

Minerva quickly regained her composure and shook her head looking back down to her plate,  she became a little uncomfortable and stood up from the table pushing her plate aside.

"Thank You..." She said quickly to the house elf that cooked her breakfast before walking quickly out of the kitchen headed back to the safety of her own chambers.

Minerva chose flight over fight, her mother made it crucial she learned how to hide her feelings so that no one could hurt her, and she had always buried them deep deep down and still believed it was wrong to expose them to anyone, especially if that someone was Albus.   She denied to accept the fact that her feelings or desires for Albus may be inescapable.
