I never went to sleep that night. Instead I spend most of the night drinking the beer I bought and trying to process what the fuck happened and more importantly, why didn't it kill me? If it was a werewolf isn't that what they did or at least bite you so you turn into one? Yet there was no bite or any claw marks anywhere. Just the large bruise where it tackled me. It must have used great care not to do anything else, but why?I had just opened my fifth Moose Drool when Dobby's ears popped up letting me know something was going on. Sure enough he soon jumped off the bed and started barking at the front door.
I was too scared to even look outside. The clock on the wall read 3:23 in the morning. Was it that thing coming back after deciding to kill me after all? A moment later a loud knock came from the front door. A young male's voice called from the other side "Ms. Crystal Reeves? I need you to answer your door ma'am."
I tossed on a fresh T-shirt and crept out in the hall as another large knock followed. This time it was a female voice "Ms. Reeves, we really need to speak with you. Please open the door."
"Who are you and what do you want?" I called from the hallway not sure what I should do. At least they weren't the thing that attacked me earlier. Maybe it is. It brought a friend. Don't say that, Crystal!
"We're here about your incident earlier. For your safety we really need you to speak with us." The male voice answered.
How the hell did they know what happened? I hadn't told anyone and I was sure nobody would believe me if I did. Hell, I wasn't completely sure I believed me. They did say it was for my safety. Did that mean it was coming back? Had it attacked others?
"Hold on." I called out as I grabbed Dobby's leash and stuck it on him as he fought to get to the door. Taking a deep breath I unlocked the bolt.
A young man with wavy blonde hair and blue eyes smiled up at me. He wore a dark suit with a purple tie. The woman he was with stood about an inch taller at about an even six foot. She had dark skin and her hair was done in dreadlocks with a black skirt and a dark red blouse. They both flashed badges at me that I didn't recognize along with their smiles.
"Ms. Crystal Reeves, I'm Mark Kenny and this is my partner Monique Jackson and we're with The Council. We understand you witnessed something unusual last night? The gentlemen said pushing past me and completely ignoring Dobby who was going nuts barking And growling at them.
"Something tried to kill me! I guess you could say I witnessed something. I've never heard of the Council before. Are you with the police?" Something seemed odd about these two that was causing me to lose my very strong buzz I worked up.
"Ms. Reeves, why don't you put your dog outside. You won't be needing him I assure you." The dark skinned Monique said softly as she turned my head towards her. The next thing I remember was coming back inside having put Dobby on his chain. Why would I of done that?
"Please. Have a seat Ms. Reeves and we can get to business." The blonde man motioned to the chair next to the couch they both sat at. I did as I was told not sure I wanted to upset them. They both seemed polite enough but I had no doubt they could drop that at anytime.
"I'm sure you're confused about all this so I'll just be blunt. The Werewolf that showed itself to you last night has claimed you. What this means for you is-"
W-wait. Did you say a werewolf? As in those things in movies? They're real?"
I couldn't believe what I had heard. I had suspected, okay I knew, but to hear it said out loud was something else... wait! What was that part about be claimed? For what?"It's simple, sweetie, the werewolf has claimed you as their own. The lady smiled at me as her fangs came out causing me to scoot back into the chair in terror. She's a vampire? I just let a freaking vampire in my home?!
