It was almost ten when I made it to Nancy's bar. I really have to start insisting I take my car to places. Unlike the last time I was here there actually was several cars and a couple motorcycles parked on the side.As I walked up to the front of the door I saw a young guy dressed up as if he thought he was Joe Cool arguing with the same guy from last time trying to get him and his date inside. He had a couple bills in his hand obviously trying to bribe him and was only managing to piss the guard off.
As I approached Mr. Joe Cool decided to change tactics. "I'm Kyle. What's your name?" He asked walking up to me with a warm smile. Not again...
"Fuck off!" I replied without stopping. After what happened last time and Joann hurt I wasn't going to bother being nice.
"I just want to talk to you." He said coming up behind me. "If you knew what happened to the last asshole who tried to talk to me here, you wouldn't. Now take the-"
I was cut off by the guard walking quickly towards us. He grabbed and turned Joe like he was a feather twisting the guys arm behind his back. "I warned you..." the guy cried out as I just ran inside without waiting to see what happened next.
The young guy Nancy had watch the bar when she took me home was bartending along with some red haired girl with dreadlocks and a blonde hair guy but I didn't see Nancy anywhere. I didn't need to be a werewolf to see he was surprised and nervous to see me back.
"What are you doing here?" He asked looking around as I got to the bar causing me to do the same. It was hard to see everyone but nothing stood out. There was a few people playing Billiards and about a dozen others drinking but nothing unusual.
"I need to speak to Nancy. Is she here?" I asked turning back to him.
"Don't take your frustrations out on the human, Jason. It's not her fault that Susan dumped ya." The girl told him in a strange accent that I couldn't place. She gave him pat on his back as she walked past him towards a guy who was wanting another beer.
"Don't start, Linnea." He said agitated as he tossed her a dirty look.
"Hon gjorde ett nummer på dig..." She smiled back over her shoulder at him.
"What?! What's that mean?" She was now ignoring him for the customer so he returned his attention to me.
"You should go. Jake's here and I don't want you causing Nancy any more problems than you already have. Got it?" He spoke in a low voice leaning across towards me.
His eyes took on a glowed slightly as if there was something else behind them. While it did scare the shit out of me, he had nothing on Nancy or the fact that one of these pe- werewolves almost killed my sister. And I was going to find out who. Perhaps, it was a good thing Jake was here...
"Where?" I asked crossing my arms trying my best to keep my nerves together.
"Where what?" He was confused. He was probably expecting me to be running out already and normally, I would of been. This gave my confidence a slight boost it needed desperately for me to keep going.
"Where is he?" I answered. I noticed Linnea now watching as if this was some horror movie where the girl is about to do something stupid you know will get her head cut off or something. Hopefully things go better.
"I'm not telling you that. Now get-"
We both turned towards the sound of a door opening somewhere in the back room and a moment later I saw Jake, Nancy, Ashley, and her parents step out.
"It's not up to them anymore, it's up to me and I gave you my answer. I suggest you-"
Ashley stopped mid sentence as the four of them looked at me in surprise. What was Ashley doing here? I swallowed hard trying to muster what little courage I could.
It was my turn to stop in shock as Ashley busted up laughing. "The mistress showing up where you and the wife are. Oh very smooth, Romeo! If this is how you run your pack, I'll consider your surrender."
Jake looked at Nancy as if he was going to say something but I cut him off.
"Did you do it?" I demanded. I glanced at Nancy who was eyeing her husband suspiciously.
"Was it you who hurt Joann?" My voice clearly betraying me but everyone was looking at Jake like his hand was caught in the cookie jar so none of them seemed to of noticed.
"Who's, Joann?" Nancy demanded. I wasn't sure if she was asking me or Jake but I figured I better answer if I didn't want her claws into my neck again.
"My sister. One of you almost killed her and I want to know who. She's got nothing to do with whatever's going on.
"I didn't do a fuckin thing to her! Why don't you ask your mate here as she doesn't seem to respect my territory."
"You mean our territory that you stole and I intend to get back? And I didn't tell The council she's my mate, but what if I had? Aren't you supposed to be married? It's not your damn business who I claim! Ashley shot back at him. Things were heating up fast between them and I wanted no part of it. Another thing as they each looked surprised by me bringing up Joann. Nancy didn't even know who she was so she didn't do it and Jake... he was the most likely as he hates her and has been pissed at me but... he looked sincere when he said it wasn't him.
A terrifying growl caused me, Ashley and her parents to take a couple steps back from Nancy. I never wanted to hear that directed at me. "Your recently claimed girlfriend shows up here because a werewolf attacked her sister and you are upset that it wasn't you that claimed her? You piece of shit! The Council could step into this and I'm not letting you destroy what's left of my life because you can't keep your damn dick where it belongs. Get the fuck out of here, and while you're gone, find out who did this to her!"
"This isn't what-"
"Don't! Don't you dare try lying to me!"
It seemed like the entire bar was watching what was going on which made me feel more uneasy. Great, everyone here thinks I'm some whore.
At around midnight I was walking down Cedar street to get me a room near the hospital. Maybe I should've taken the money I thought.
Every few blocks I would get the feeling I was being watched. I kept looking over my shoulder to find nothing. The fact that the street was bare with most of the houses along the way dark didn't help my nerves any. One thing about these towns is that everything closes up early.
I let out a comforting breath that felt like I was holding since I left The Wolfs Den when I saw the Motel 6 sign. I checked in and I quickly found my room that was just down from the office. Thank goodness I didn't have to deal with stairs. My feet was not liking the walking I was doing.
Once inside i took one last look around. Right before i shut the door I saw the Wolf step out of shadows and into the light of the parking lot. My breath caught in my throat wondering if it would try something here. Mine and Joann's place was away from others but here there are folks in the next room. Plus I was sure they had cameras everywhere. It made eye contact as it just stood there for a few moments then it just turned and was gone.
I put my hand to my chest as if that would slow my heart down as I waited just to be sure. Finally after a minute or two it returned to its normal pace.
It was going to be a long night.
