I looked at him. I knew he wouldn't answer me, but what I didn't understand is why? What had I done? He looked at me and smirked before the bat came wielding by again, striking my temple and throwing me into darkness.
3 HOURS BEFORE
"Hank, I really think you should look at this, I think I've got something" Hank ignored me so I lightly tapped on his shoulder.
"What Connor!" Hank said clearly irritated, he looked at the victim, a tinge of sadness in his eyes.
"I found some blood on the counter. It belongs to Thomas Grayson, known for illegal gambling and manslaughter"
"So, can you tell me where he is?"
"I found a flyer on the counter too, it's for a spa hotel downtown"
"Odd place for a spa, you'd think they would put it uptown where are the rich people are"
"I suspect it's not really a spa, Lieutenant"
"No shit. Come on let's go check it out" Hank left the apartment, I took one last look at the victim before following Hank. I slid into the passenger side as Hank turned on the radio, loud.
2 HOURS BEFORE
"You really don't know this guy?" Hank said, showing the women at the front desk the picture one more time.
"No" She moved her blond hair out of her bangs, I took as a sign she was nervous, I scanned her. Her heart rate was up, and each time Hank spoke it went up again. "Look if you don't have a warrant I am going to need you to leave. You are scaring my customers."
"Scaring the customers" Hank murmured, he took one last looked around and he left.
"We should try a more direct approach to talking to her, she seemed nervous"
"Maybe thats because you stared at her the whole time. And what do you mean more direct? How can you get more direct, I was talking to her wasn't I?"
"Yes but-"
"Just get in the car Connor, I need a drink before we see the Capitan"
1 HOUR BEFORE
"Hank, I really think that we should go back, check that place out"
"Connor, let it go, you heard the Captain we don't have enough evidence for a warrant"
"But she was lying to you"
"People lie, Connor, it's what we humans do"
"Lieutenant, I know I can find something if we just go back"
"Connor! Stop! LET IT GO" I left Hanks cubicle, heading to the captain's office.
"Captain?"
"Not now Connor."
"But I think-"
"CONNOR I SAID NOT NOW, GET OUT"
Frustrated I went back to my computer and reviewed the evidence. This man Thomas Grayson, before this murderer and the manslaughter, he had a good family, one could say he had everything. After he hit that boy with the truck everything seemed to change. He began going to the spa, racking up many gambling debts. Now he is missing, most likely dead, with a dead girl in his house. But why?
30 MINUTES BEFORE
I entered the spa, dressed as a customer.
"Hello," the woman at the front desk said.
"Hi," I said, voice disguised. "I have an appointment, for Greg Anderson"
"Hmm. Yes, here you are. Do...Do you have a deposit?"
"Yes," I handed over a thousand dollars. Hank didn't realize that this was an underground gambling place when we were before. After we had left, I came back, looked around and figured it out by scanning the surrounding area. After talking to the captain or rather him refusing to talk to me, I hacked their system and put my reservation in, making it look like I had made it a month ago.
"You may continue," She said, pressing a button. A big steel door opened and I entered.
NOW
The bat hit me again, this time immobilizing my legs.
"How did you find this place!" The man asked again. When I didn't answer, the bat hit my back, a dull electronic pain slowly seeping through.
"Where is Thomas Grayson"
"Why do you care? You a cop?"
"Yes, I am detective, so you should untie me. You should also stop hitting me with that bat, I cost a small fortune, and once the police find this establishment you won't have any money"
"So you're a cop"
"I just said I was. Where is Thomas Grayson? Why did he kill that girl?
"Tommy is dead. Owed some bad people a lot of money."
"Who?"
"Doesn't matter."
"Why kill the girl?"
"You know what? I am the one asking the questions so one last time asshole, HOW DID YOU FIND THIS PLACE!" Again I refused to answer and again the bat hit me.

Shutdown in 3 minutes
Suddenly I heard shouts outside the room, shots firing. Commotion outside the back of the building.
2 minutes till shutdown
A loud crash came. The police had broken through the front door, I could hear Hank yelling, asking where I was. He fired a warning shot for everyone to stay down. I heard him pounding on the door, yelling for me.
"CONNOR? CONNOR? YOU THERE? HANG ON CONNOR!"
"Fuck" The man dropped the bat and ran out the door behind me. Hank is still pounding on the door before he shoots the handle. Hank ran through seeing me right away. He ran over to me untying my hands.
1 minute till shutdown
"Connor, shit, are you okay?"
"I'm f-fine lieutenant" Hank lifted me, putting his arms underneath my broken legs. I didn't tell him that was about to shut down, I didn't want to take his focus off catching the suspect.
"Hank, leave me, I'll be fine, you should go after that man, we need more evidence"
"No."
"But he is getting away!"
"Let him go, Connor, we need to get you all fixed up. You are my first priority...Always"
Shutting down...
