"That's okay," Connor said a small smile forming on his face, " I'm just the decoy."

EARLIER
"No. Absolutely not. It's too risky. NO." Connor trailed behind North, he put a hand on her shoulder and she stopped and turned to him. Her eyes were stern.
"That's why we'll plan. And have a backup plan. And have backup plans for those backup plans. And maybe even another backup plan just so we are sure."
"This isn't a joke Connor."
"I'm not joking."
"Connor we don't have time for this. Markus is DYING! We lost most of the alpha squad, and Simon says the humans are gathering in the West. We need guns and blue blood, not more risks."
"I know! I know North, we are failing but if I could just do this one thing. I just need a small group, Ralph, Alice and Luther maybe a couple others."
"Keep your voice down. I said no."
"North-"
"No Connor," she hissed. " I won't risk my people. We will go to The Dump at sundown and siphon off blue blood for the wounded." North continued to walk leaving Connor behind, a scowl on his face.
He stormed off, heading to his barracks where he saw Luther and Alice talking.
"How are you feeling Alice?"
"Transfer went well, it's odd being the same height as mom though."
"You did used to be so little." Luther chuckled, Alice glared at him.
"Daaad." Luther seemed to noticed Connor at the door and turned to him. Connor smiled at them.
"So?" Alice probed.
"What did she say?" Luther added.
"No."
"WHAT?!" Alice jumped up, " My mother is dying and I can't help her? She's wounded because of North! Everyone knew that mission was a bad idea! Trying to rob a military camp!"
"North's leading a group to The Dump at sundown." Connor said, sitting down on one of bunk beds. Luther looked at Connor.
"There won't be enough."
"I know."
"This is so stupid!" Alice yelled and Luther stood up beside her. He placed a hand on her shoulder.
"It's okay Alice, we will figure something out."
"It's not okay, mom is down, Markus is down even Mia is down."
Connor flinched at Mia's name, and Luther gave him a solemn look.
"How is she?"
"She's-she" Connor didn't finish his sentence and there was silence before a message came over the loud speakers.
"All willing to come to The Dump
At sundown report to lieutenants Simon and Josh now. Repeat all willing to come to The Dump report now to Lieutenants Simon and Josh now."
Alice offered her hand to Connor.
"You coming?"
"Yes."
