Faye walked silently down the road that was between one of her favorite coffee shops and some type of clothing store. Night had fallen fast in California. She quickened her pace to get back home before it was too late. She was out all day with school, then with work. She just wanted to get home and feel the great powers of relaxation hit her as she fell into her bed. The road was barely lit, but Faye didn't mind. She always loved it when she couldn't see the shadows of the day. She climbed up the concrete stairs as she reached her apartment number. Her cat mewed as she entered through the doorway.

"Hey Fawkes, you need food don't you?" she asked as she bent down to pick up her precious black and white cat. She walked into the kitchen and pressed the voicemail button on her home phone. She grabbed the cat food from underneath the sink and put some in Fawkes' bowl.

"Hey Faye. It's mom. I was just wanting to say that I'm sorry for yelling and that I love yo-" A loud bang interrupted her mother's sentence. Faye ran to stop the five month old message. She could barely see with the tears blurring her eyes. She remembered that night as if it was yesterday. The horrendous feeling of alone overwhelming her already. She walked into her father's room to make sure he was sleeping. She quietly opened the wooden door and saw her father sleeping soundly. She let out a sigh and headed to her room with Fawkes on her heels. He mewed as Faye closed the door behind her .She changed out of her sweaty work clothes and headed towards her shower. She felt more relaxed as the hot water hit her hair. She put on her fuzzy Batman pajamas and quickly jumped into her bed. The ultimate feeling of comfort hit her and she quickly drifted off to a deep sleep.

       ---

"Where do you think you're going at this time of night?" A familiar voice screamed. Faye turned around to see her mother's blood red face screaming at her.

"I'm going to work. They called me in. You're the one who said I need to do something to provide around here, remember?" Faye asked as she grabbed a pair of house keys off of the hook and started to head out the door.

"I don't think so. You march yourself right back to bed, young lady. I said to get a job, and to also focus on school. It's 12:00 a.m and you have school tomorrow." Her mother said, anger lingering in each word.

"I don't care." Faye said as she slammed the door and started to walk towards the diner. She looked down at the keys and noticed that they were to her father's apartment.

"Shoot. I guess I'll have to stay at his place tonight then." Faye said as she walked into the diner. She saw her reflection in the one of the mirrors in the bathroom as she was pulling up her raven black hair. She saw blood pour from her eyes, and nose. She saw a bullet wound where her heart was and she slowly fell to the ground.

----

Faye woke up in sweats. She quickly stood up and refused to go back to sleep. She walked over to her desk and grabbed her iPod and it started to play Lost it All. Faye looked at the time on her clock. The bright green block numbers flashed 4:36 a.m.

"Great. I have at least two hours before I have to do anything." Faye said sarcastically as she picked up her sketchbook and turned to a blank page and started drawing. A few minutes later, she heard her father waking up with soft weeping sounds. She got up from her chair and headed towards his bedroom. She slowly walked in to see her father's bloodshot eyes. He just looked up at Faye.

"I woke up, expecting her to be here, Faye, but she wasn't." Her father said quietly as his tears choked him on his words. Faye sat down next to her father and wrapped her arms around him.

"I know dad. I miss her too." She said as tears slowly began to fall from her icy blue eyes.
