The great feeling of falling into a deep sleep never consumed Faye throughout the night. She tossed and turned under her comforter until eventually she decided to just lay and look at the ceiling. Darkness filled the room with a certain eeriness that Faye could not stand. She got up from under the covers and flicked her light switch into the on position. She sat at her desk and grabbed her sketchbook. She began to draw her nightmare from the previous night, until she heard a soft knock at her door. Faye, slightly annoyed, got up and cracked the door, revealing her father's face.
"Yes, father dearest?" Faye asked, with sarcasm lurking in her voice. She saw her father's arms tense up, knowing that he was in the wrong.
"Faye, lis-" Her father began before she cut him off.
"You know, I trusted you, dad, and you broke it. You smashed it to bits like our window in our living room. Before you apologize, I want you to sincerely mean it. I don't want you to be sorry because you got caught in your web of lies. " Faye said, emphasizing each word to let him know how angry she was, without waking up the whole neighborhood. She saw the hesitation in her father's eyes.
"Exactly what I thought." Faye said as she silently closed the door and walked back to her seat. He's your father, you have no right to be that way towards him. A nagging voice in Faye's head said. She shook her head of the thought, knowing that he needed to hear how she felt, even if it did hurt him. She couldn't stand seeing her father's hurt in his eyes as she closed the door, but she couldn't stand the lie that was about to slip through his teeth even more.

As both Faye and her father were ready to eat, the kitchen was filled with awkwardness and tension. Neither of them spoke a word to each other, but they both saw that one another's actions did hurt them equally. Finally, Faye's father broke the silence.
"Faye, I just wanted to say that you were right to be upset with me, and that I am genuinely sorry that I lied to you. I'm also sorry that I went back to gambling. I promise that I will try my best for you to avoid it all costs. I love you, and I just want you to have the best life. " He said, with tears in his eyes. Faye forgave him in her heart, but something in her mind just could not forgive her father. She got up from her seat and hugged him.
"I know, and I shouldn't have been so harsh on you. I love you too, daddy." Faye said. Daddy, this man lied to you and you call him....daddy? Faye's brain screamed at her. But he's genuinely sorry. He meant it. Her heart would say back. She left the room to shut the war that was going on inside of her up. She got ready for school and headed out the door, avoiding anymore confrontation with her father. She walked down the alley like normal, and scolded herself for forgetting to take a different way. Once she got to school, she had a breakdown. She had to let the tears that were building up on the way down out. By the time Emily arrived, Faye looked like a train wreck with a snotty nose. Emily immediately ran up and hugged her best friend.
"What's wrong my wonderful Faye?" Emily said as she let go of Faye.
"I'm at war with my head and my heart." Faye said, in between her whimpering sobs.
