I gripped the football tightly next to my shoulder as my eyes scanned the field. I spotted my third, Landon and was about to pass to him when my eyes absentmindedly darted over to North Shores cheerleaders. My wolf howled in a worried panic at the sight of Elena standing at the top of the pyramid. She had to be about thirty feet off the ground and every instinct was telling me to get her down safely. The whole game they had been tossing her around like a freaking noodle and it was driving my wolf and I crazy. I growled lowly and was about to charge to her when the wind was knocked out of me as I was tackled to the ground.

Fuck! Not again!

"And Lucas Dawson is sacked for the third time tonight!" The announcer shouted over the speaker. It took everything in me not to march over there and strangle the little punk. I got up brushing myself off glaring at the asshole who sacked me. Obviously it was the guy who slapped my mates ass earlier, it had been him the other two times as well. I got in his space my height towering him by about three inches.

"Back the fuck down mutt." I growled venomously. He just chuckled, enraging me even more.

"You seem to be losing your game there Dawson. How does it feel to be down by 23?" He smirked. I was seething ready to put this prick in his place but before I could do anything Colton and Landon were instantly holding me back. They knew if I got too pissed I would shift and that wouldn't be good for anyone.

The ref blew a whistle separating us and we all got back in to position ready to end this miserable game. There was less than a minute left anyway. I fucking lost my first game since I became quarterback last year. And to North Shore of all teams. I got in line ready to take the loss like a man.

Elena's P.O.V

The final buzzer sounded signaling the end of the game. Everyone from North Shore went crazy. The team all ran into a dog pile as the cheerleaders jumped up and down squealing. The bleacher filled with our fans went wild. This was the first game we ever won against South Shore. Though it was thrilling I couldn't bring myself to feel excited.

The look on Lucas's face was devastating. Each time Joey tackled him my heart stopped for a moment until I saw that he was okay. My wolf would growl furiously and once I almost found myself ready to attack my best friend and protector for hurting my mate.

My eyes never left Lucas's. He was staring at me with such intensity I thought I would melt on the spot. He stood with his bummed out team as their coach said a few words.

Before I knew what was happening strong arms wrapped around me and I was abruptly lifted from the ground. Blake spun me around laughing joyously. I felt like I was going to be sick from his touch. I didn't even have time to process as he planted his lips on mine in a hard kiss. I could feel him trying to move my mouth with his but I was frozen.

A loud and ferocious growl ripped through the air snapping me out of my paralysis. I knew exactly whose it was by the way my spine shivered and my wolf howled. My hands went to Blake's shoulders pushing him away from me. He furrowed his eyebrows looking confused but placed me down. I was freed just in time to see Lucas's tense looking back as he hastily stormed off into the school. My wolf whimpered wanting me to go after him and offer comfort.

"We won baby!" Blake cheered trying to get an excited reaction from me. He seemed oblivious to the whole exchange that just went on probably playing it off as Lucas being pissed for losing.

I fake smiled at him. "I know, you were amazing. I'm happy for you." I was happy and proud of him. I knew how much this meant to him. I just couldn't stop my heart from aching for someone else. I didn't know what to do, I was so overwhelmed with everything that had happened in the past few hours. I found my mate and it seemed everything I knew just changed drastically. Any romantic feeling I had for Blake was gone and replaced with brotherly love. How was I supposed to break his heart when all he had ever done was care for me?
