Joey and I headed back to the clearing, Lucas a few feet behind us. It felt ridiculous to have to hide. The most natural instinct to a werewolf was to be with their mate, yet here I was pretending I didn't know him all because of an overdue feud.
I heard it before we reached the field, growling and snarls. Joey and I looked at each other once before sprinting the rest of the way there.
Chaos. Complete and utter chaos, was the only way to describe the situation. Shreds of clothing were scattered everywhere, as most had shifted into their wolves. My first thoughts immediately went to rogue attack... but I couldn't catch one off scent that hadn't been here earlier.
Which meant one thing, our packs were full on fighting.
My heart sped up as Lucas growled, coming up next to me. Joey went to join in with our pack when Lucas clamped a hand on his shoulder. "Stay with Elena." He snapped before running and shifting mid air, his clothes shredding, and he landed on all fours of his huge black wolf.
I expected him to immediately start harming my pack members, and I cringed as I watched. I couldn't exactly blame him considering he had his own pack to defend. However I was left stunned when he intercepted a head on collision between two wolves, forcing them away from eachother and most likely stopping serious injuries. He snarled in their faces until they both cowered in fear.
That was when two of the loudest growls I had ever heard rippled through the entire clearing. From the way it passed through me, making my spine crawl, I couldn't imagine what it had done to an ordinary wolf.
My father and Alpha Robert stood just at the edge of the tree break, both in their large imposing wolf forms. Every single wolf stood frozen and frightened as they staired at their Alphas.
Dustin was right next to dad, he must have ran to inform them of the situation. I assumed my father had closed his mind link off while in meeting with Robert.
Beta Vincent jogged a few paces behind, finally appearing in the clearing carrying three pairs of shorts. He tossed them to the wolves, my que to look away. I did not need to be scarred by my Dad's or Dustin's 'business'...or my mates father's for that matter.
A good minute later I snuck a peak, relieved to see them all dressed, though the glare on my dad's face freaked even me out. It was worse than 'the look' that Dustin and I always immitated as kids, when he would get angry at us. It was the same everytime and luckily he had no idea we made fun of it rather than fearing it. But the look he had on his face in that moment, was to simply put it, terrifying.
"I don't care who or what initiated this." He spoke rather calmly, a tone that didn't match his expression. "You are all to report back here tomorrow after your school day lets out. If another stunt like the one I've seen here today is pulled, anyone involved will report directily to me or Alpha Robert. Now get home." He growled the last part, a bit of his resolve seeping through. His eyes that had been scanning the group landed on me, off to the side and safe, a flash of relief washed over him.
Alpha Robert shouted out orders to his pack. Soon all the wolves were clearing into the woods, towards their own territoy.
My eyes remained focused on my mates who stayed back with his father and what must have been Lucas's future Beta. I'd never met him before but he looked familiar.
"Elena, come here." My dad ordered, his wolf was at bay so I decided not to disrespect him. I strolled over to them standing next to Dustin. It was impossible not to note my close proximity to my very naked mate.
My wolf had grown attatched to Lucas's. I knew it was going to be harder and harder to be apart. And even more difficult to keep our bond a secret. I only hoped that our packs would truly work things out, allowing Lucas and I an actual chance.
