————————————————The snow fell blissfully that morning.
As if it were daring me to come outside.
The weather was so tempting that the little voice inside my head eventually wore me down and pushed me out the door.
The air ripped across the exposed skin on my body as I exited the house and stepped into the fresh snow.
I took about five paces to my left and came upon the garage's back door.
I gripped the cold door handle and yanked the door open, walking into the garage barefoot.
I don't know why, but the snow never really seemed to effect me.
I padded around the inside of the garage and grabbed my skis and goggles, but froze when something caught my eye.
A glint of metal reflecting in the early winter light.
I stared at my father's skiing medals and trophies on the shelf in front of me.
I confidently reminded myself that today would be the day I made my father proud.
I grabbed the rest of my gear, and hurriedly I jumped into my car, slamming my foot on the gas.
The truck lurched forward and took of zooming towards the slopes.
In less than 15 minutes I made it to the ski hills.
A new record.
I smiled to myself.
And I didn't even get caught this time. I thought.
I looked down at the crystal coated slopes.
I saw my father speeding down a hill, probably having the time of his life without me. He never wanted to bring me along when he went skiing, I was too much of an embarrassment to him.
At school I'm kind of an outcast.
I know, shocking right.
People used to think that I was as talented as my world class skiing father, so they would cling to me like burrs to a sweater.
But after some of them saw me at the ski hills, they knew I wasn't.
News spread fast when it comes to embarrassing secrets.
So in about a week all of my burr buds were gone, and wanted nothing to do with me.
I've wanted nothing more than to prove myself ever since, and any chance I get, I will.
I promise you that.
