"I'm sorry Nika, but daddy isn't coming back," [Name] says simply as she stares into her son's eyes. Then she remembers that Pein is still in town and tries to rephrase her statement. "Well, what I meant is that daddy won't be living here anymore. He's still in town and wants to see you though."

Nika furrows his brows, looking perplexed. "Then who is daddy staying with?"

With a sigh, the mother says, "He's staying with Uncle Itachi."

"Ita!" Athena chimes in while using her chubby fingers to pick up the remaining vegetables that lie on her plate. She tries to fit an entire broccoli in her tiny mouth as the mother continues explaining the situation to her son.

"He didn't abandon you like the last time he left," she says. "I just didn't want him to live here for free anymore."

Nika nods like he understands, but he honestly doesn't know what 'abandon' means. He slips from his seat and goes to the bathroom to wash his hands. [Name] takes his lack of response as sadness and just lets him go. She takes his plate from the table and places it in the sink. She returns to the dining room to pick Athena up from her highchair and lets her sit in the living room to watch some nighttime cartoons.

She checks on Nika as he finishes drying his hands off. She leans against the doorframe of the bathroom.

"You okay?" She asks, referring to his father leaving him. He nods and yawns.

"I'm just sleepy," he replies heading towards his room. [Name] follows her son to tuck him in. He climbs into his racecar bed and buries himself in blankets. She kisses his forehead and caresses his head.

"Goodnight baby," she says softly as he turns to face her.

"Goodnight mama."

[Name] turns off the lights, the superhero nightlight his father bought him shines brightly in the corner. She remembers the words Pein told Nika when he plugged it in the outlet.

"It'll fight off the darkness when I'm not here to do it. So you don't have to be scared of the dark anymore."

She sighs, as she closes the door behind her. The mother returns to her daughter who is happily watching a woman sing a nursery rhyme. Athena turns to her mom and points to the TV, squealing out gibberish.

"What are you even trying to say?" [Name] laughs as she sits next to Athena. "You like the show or something?"

"Gashi!"

[Name] smiles. "You think Gashi will like this show too?"

"Gashi!" Athena pouts. "Shee Gashi."

[Name] finally connects the pieces together. "You, you want to see him. Okay, we can see him tomorrow," she promises. She picks up her baby and turns off the TV.

"But first you need to sleep."

...

[Name] can't sleep. It's midnight and she's still up and staring at the ceiling. Her children are sleeping soundly and she's lying on her back in the dark. Her phone sits on the nightstand, waiting patiently for her to pick it up.

[Name] turns on her side and looks at her phone, wondering if Kakashi is still up. Her phone ends up in her hands moments later and she's immediately texting him.

Are you up?

Yes. Do you need something?

If it's not too much, can you come over?

There is no response and she thinks he's rejecting her, so she sets her phone down back on the nightstand. The mother tries to focus on sleeping and closes her eyes. But she just feels like something is missing, or perhaps someone.

Her eyes open again and she looks at the empty space next to her. Why is she suddenly feeling so lonely? Her emotions flare up and she whimpers. Tears sting at the corner of her eyes once she realizes how absolutely miserable she feels.

Soon, [Name] hears a knock at the front door and she feels her mood pick right back up. The fact that Kakashi would come so late in the night put a smile on her face. She rolls out of bed and runs to the door. Before opening it, she fixes her nightgown.

There Kakashi is, wearing sweatpants and a black tank top. He's not even wearing his mask which comes as a surprise to [Name].

"What's wrong my love?" He asks once he's inside. "Why do you need me so late in the night?"

She looks at him sheepishly and shrugs. "I guess I don't really need you desperately. I just can't sleep."

"I'd come over even if you got a paper cut," he confesses. He takes her hand in his own and pulls her towards the bedroom. "Would you like me to put you to sleep?"

"Yes, please," she says as he pushes her on the bed. He climbs on top of her and presses soft kisses to her lips. She enjoys herself as Kakashi presses his lips against her skin again and again, but a sharp pain in her gut makes her hiss in pain. This stops all loving treatment that comes from the man above her. He looks at her with concern in his eyes.

"Are you okay?" Kakashi asks. [Name] puts a hand on her stomach.

"It's nothing, my stomach just hurts," she says once another pain surges through her. Kakashi lifts her nightgown up to her chest and kisses her stomach too.

"I hope you feel better," he says and pulls her pajamas back down. The mother smiles at her boyfriend as the love she has for him grows. This is what she misses. She misses someone lying next to her in bed, she yearns for his gentle touches, and she misses having a man in the house.

[Name] says something so bizarre and out of the blue that it puts Kakashi into shock.

"I want you to move in with me Kakashi."

...

A/N: This is a lot shorter than some of my other chapters, but I had major writer's block.

Love ya, toodles!
