Chapter 2
Two days later…
“Okay kids ready to go?” My mom yelled down from the hallway.
“Yea we’re are coming” I told her.
I took 30 minutes to drive to the airport, from our home in Maine. Once we got there we went in, checked our bags, got through security with no problem and finally got to our plane gate. We were flying through Texas and then in to San Francisco. I had been working hard and waiting for this trip all year. In order to earn this I had to keep straight A’s for the whole year along with no suspensions or detentions. Finally the plane started to take off. During the plane ride I was going to start reading my books and internet articles about Alcatraz. At one point I had to go to the bathroom, while walking there I saw the same man from the restaurant. It turns out he had threated the lady at the counter with his gun, and took all of the restaurants money before the police could get there. I knew I had to do something so when I got back to my seat I told my mom. She said I was just imagining it and that the guy had been taken care of. I did not believe her but because she seemed uneasy about the subject I let it go, again.
Once I calmed myself down from my little scare I started reading my books. When I was reading it said something about legendary underground tunnels, under the island, built by the Indians that used to live there. The tunnels were also used my escapee prisoners. It said that the third shower from the right, would have an opening if you pulled the drain up. Then it said the tunnel consist of 81 different tunnels, that all turned left than right, left than right. They went down 300 feet and then ended in a room with a full bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen, with plenty of food. They said that this is where some of the escaped prisoners stayed for months before they got caught. Nobody actually knows if these actually exist but I was going to find out if they are still there.
It also talked about how the prisoners escaped and that they used their jobs to make dummies for in bed during a cell check, and how they used spoons to dig out holes to escape. Bar spreaders were made to escape and how one time a grenade was dropped to stop an escape. People also used pans as mini-boats, but most of those people ended up dying.
Then it talked about the island before it was a jail, and how it is used today. Then I got bored of reading about Alcatraz and started reading about the golden gate bridge. Then before I knew it we landed in San Francisco.
