The Granger family had a lot more than just one muggleborn witch. Hermione's uncle, Malcolm, was just like her. Born to two muggles, but was a wizard. The magical gene was then passed onto his only son, Matthew. When Matthew and Hermione end up at H...
To say that Matthew Granger wasn't a morning person is an understatement. He'd rather sleep all day and be up all night, except his muggle mother had different plans. She was up in her only son's small eggshell coloured room bright and early, especially today.
Matthew waved his mother away in a sleepy state as she pushed his dirty blonde hair off his face, telling him it was time to get out of bed.
Today was Matthew's first day at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but that didn't motivate the boy to get up.
"Come get some breakfast, or I'll drag you out of bed." Diane Granger threatened, only partially joking, before leaving the room.
Matthew groaned as he rolled over onto his back, knowing his mother wasn't messing around. She'd be back upstairs in a few minutes, pulling her son out of bed by his ankles if he didn't get up on his own.
Throwing his red and black striped duvet off himself, eleven year old Matthew got out of his twin sized bed. Almost as soon as his socked feet hit the floor he heard the sounds of small canine paws pattering up the hazelnut coloured staircase.
Matthew stayed seated on his bed, his hands pressing into the sheeted mattress. The boy peered out his doorway, blonde locks falling in his face.
Soon enough, a fawn French Bulldog with white paws came running into the room, overly excited that her playmate was finally awake.
"Hey, Belle!" Matthew greeted her, just as the pup jumped onto his bed and attacked him with morning kisses. "Hi, hi. Nice to see you too." Matthew mumbled as he fell back onto his mattress, his hands holding the small body of the dog.
"Matthew! Belle! Get down here!" Diane called from the kitchen, needing to feed the two young bodies before the big day ahead of both of them.
"Coming!" Matthew yelled back, sitting up on his bed. Belle barked once at him before jumping off his bed and running back downstairs. Matthew chuckled softly at the pup, now finally being able to get ready for the day. He got dressed, brushed his teeth, made sure he had everything packed, and did all the usual morning routine things before rolling his trunk out into the hallway and leaving it at the top of the stairs.
Matthew ran downstairs, and walked into the kitchen, the strong smell of cooked bacon immediately reaching his nose. The scene in the Granger kitchen was nothing out of the ordinary. His mother and father were sitting at the table, a newspaper open in front of Malcolm Granger, with his spoon magically stirring his coffee. Matthew's father was a muggleborn wizard, having two muggle parents.
The family owl, Enzo, was asleep in his cage that sat on a tall podium by the back door.
"Good morning, Matt." Malcolm greeted his son, looking up from his newspaper.
"Morning." Matthew replied as he fixed himself a plate of eggs, bacon, and one slice of buttered toast before sitting down in an empty seat at the table.
"Where's your trunk?" Diane asked, her dark eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Matthew was nearly a spitting image of his mother, with dirty blonde hair, dark eyebrows that everyone assumed were black, and the same smile. However, he had the same bright blue eyes as his father.
"Upstairs. It was too heavy for me to carry. Can you help me bring it down please, Dad?" Matthew replied, looking over at his father.
Malcolm nodded as he took a sip of his coffee. The spoon must be exhausted from all the stirring it just had to endure. "Yeah, I can do that." He said, setting the white mug back down.
"Thanks. Other than that, I have everything. Enzo's right there, and you have my train ticket." Matthew told Diane, looking back at her.
"Alright." She said simply, allowing Matthew to eat his breakfast in peace. He obliged and finished the food on his plate in no time.
Once Matthew was done his breakfast, he put his plate in the sink. He then went to pick up Enzo's cage, trying-but failing-to not wake him up. Enzo let out a startled hoot, ruffling his grey and black feathers in annoyance.
"Sorry, Enzo." Matthew mumbled to the owl as he carried the cage to the front door and set it down. Belle came running over after laying peacefully on a bed way too big for a French Bulldog in the living room. She cautiously walked up to Enzo's cage, sniffing the metal bars before letting out a single bark. Enzo hooted back at her in response, narrowing his beady little eyes at the dog.
"Come on, Belle. Leave him alone." Matthew called the dog over as he put his worn down trainers on. Belle listened, walking over so Matthew could pat her.
"You might wanna move Enzo, Matt." Malcolm announced as he walked to the front door, his wife trailing behind him. Matthew noticed that his father had his wand in his hand, so he quickly snatched the owl's cage and backed up to stand beside his mother, Belle following him.
With a swish and flick of Malcolm's wrist, the overweight trunk came floating to the ground. It landed with a heavy clunk right where Enzo's cage was moments ago.
"I'll take it out the car." Malcolm stated as he unlocked and opened the front door, grabbed a car key off the small set of hooks by the door, then grabbed the trunk.
That's when the goodbyes started between Belle and Matthew. He was sad to be leaving her for so long while he was at school, but had plans to return for Christmas break.
"Come on, Matt. We've gotta get going." Diane reminded her son that if he missed the Hogwarts Express then he wouldn't be going to school at all.
"Alright." With one last pat for Belle, Matthew grabbed Enzo's cage and headed out the front door with Diane trailing behind him so she could lock the house.
