Jacks POV
A loud beeping noise wakes me up. Since when do I have a siren here? It keeps repeating. Just stop! I want to sleep! The bed is so warm! After a minute it still doesn't stop. Where is this noise coming from anyway? I groggily open my eyes.
I look up to find where the noise is coming from. I can barely see anything with the sun not even above the horizon yet. As my room comes in to view-OH MY GOD!! I'm in marks room!! I see mark awake reaching over to his desk. Well now I know it was from his phone. But I'm in his room!! In his bed!! He turns off his alarm and lays on his back with his eyes still open.
I sit up quickly. Mark jumps a little. I'm still a little sleepy but I'm more concerned I'm in his room, in his bed. I must've fallen asleep during the movie.
Mark gets up out of the bed. He's still wearing his clothes from yesterday. Grey sweatpants and a blue shirt.
There are some papers sprawled out by his backpack. He places them in a folder, which he puts in his backpack.
Once they're in his backpack he sits on the bed cris-crossed and looks at me. He knows I'm embarrassed and I have a few questions.
He looks at me, waiting for me to say something.
"Did I fall asleep during the movie?" I ask.
He nods in response.
"You could've woken me up."
He just shrugs.
"I don't share beds with anyone. Ever. So it's... a bit weird." I'm opening up to him. Might be a bad thing. Though, I'm not sure. I probably shouldn't do this, but I think he needs some clarification on why I'm embarrassed.
He understandably nods.
"It's not weird for you, is it? I mean you don't seem bothered by it." Is he even remotely phased by the fact we slept in the same bed?
"Normal." He says and shrugs.
He gets up and throws his backpack over one of his shoulders. He points at the door. I nod and go to the door, open it, and wait for mark to exit. Once he does, I let the door shut on it's own.
It's a silent walk to the cafeteria. Why is it normal? I shouldn't question it. Maybe it'll spark conversation. It'll make it not as awkward.
"Why is it normal for you to share a bed?" I say. Wow that is a stupid question. He probably has to share one with a sibling.
He looks at me and shrugs. Yeah, it was a stupid question.
We get to the cafeteria. There aren't as many people as there were yesterday. Mark sets his backpack next the table we sit at and makes his way to the pantry. I go to the cupboards and start to look for a good breakfast.
After a minute or so of searching I find an almost empty bag of cereal. I take it to the table. I don't have any milk, but it's fine like this.
As I'm eating from the bag Mark sits down with two granola bars. We eat in silence.
~~~Très Petit Time Skip~~~
When we're finished with our food, Mark motions towards the exit door. "Okay." I simply say as I begin to walk to the door. Mark picks up his bag and follows.
I see in the corner of my eye Cierra death-glaring at us. I'll ignore it for now. We get to the door and I let him out. Once he is out I make sure the door is securely locked.
I watch from the side window as he leaves into the woods.
Felix didn't always go that way. Sometimes he would take a path around the front to his car, which would probably be sitting on a curb nearby. The walk must be annoying, seeing as how this place is hidden far back in the middle of woods. Out the exit door there's a good 50-ish feet to the woods. Felix would sometimes tell me how he's surprised there aren't more bugs.
There's a small tap on my shoulder. I turn around to see Cierra scowling at me. Her arms are crossed in front of her chest. Oh no. I hate when she's in this mood. Last time she did some messed up shit. Like literally breaking down a door. It fell straight to the ground. She took it out like it was nothing.
"Last night. Explain!" She yelled.
"Umm... well I wanted to watch some movies..." I stuttered with my words and fiddled with my hands. Her face not relaxing one bit made me even more nervous, "and I fell asleep in his room."
"He's a baby." She scoffs and rolls her eyes.
"How?" I say, confused. She huffs in annoyance.
"He wouldn't wake you up from sleeping last night because he feels lonely, he doesn't stand up to anyone, he doesn't even talk! You provide so much for him and he doesn't even say thank you!"
"And? He doesn't have anywhere else to go. His actions might bother you, but they don't bother me." I say, calmly.
She relaxes. Her arms go to her sides and her tensed shoulders relax. She sighs, looking away from me."Jack, just be careful please."
"I'm trying to be." I know she's only being protective of this place and me, but she can get scary sometimes. I'm grateful she can collect herself quickly, though.
She nods and we go in different directions.
I'll clean while Mark is gone.
I get the cleaning supplies and begin to clean.
