Based on a true story :)
"...inconclusionithinkthatdigitaldistortionisn'tnecessarilyagoodorbadthingbecauseitdependsonperspectiveandcontext." And with that, Jihoon finally finished his speech. The class clapped and he quickly took a seat and didn't make eye contact with anyone. His cheeks were burning and his legs were still shaking.
"Okay now everyone who has done their speech today, get peer feedback on it for the rest of the lesson." The teacher shouted for absolutely no reason. Jihoon sighed and rolled his eyes, but still, he got up and started to aimlessly wander around the room. He was about to sit down in his place and give up when he heard his name.
"Hey Jihoon-ah! You can come here!" So he shyly got up and moved to where the voice came from. The source turned out to be his classmate Soonyoung. There was a short uncomfortable silence before Jihoon softly asked,
"So...how was my speech?" He scratched the back of his neck and cringed to himself.
"It was really good! You wrote it really well and you can tell that you did good research!" Jihoon bit his lip.
"Oh er, thank you, I guess."
"The only thing that you would need to work on is that you shouldn't read off your script so much. Look up to the audience and make eye contact. Oh and try not to rush it." Jihoon heaved a sigh and gave an awkward chuckle.
"Yeah I'm fully aware of that. But the thing is, if I try and make eye contact, I'll end up doing it with just one person the whole time and it makes me so uncomfortable. Sometimes I end up laughing. So to avoid that, I just don't look up at all." Soonyoung lifted Jihoon's chin with his pointer so that they were face to face.
"Such a shame. You have pretty eyes." Jihoon gave a confused expression and slowly lowered Soonyoung's hand.
"Ooh I have an idea! You could look at me next time you do a speech! I won't make you laugh, I promise. It would help you boost your grade, right?" Jihoon nodded but still hesitated on the offer. He didn't have many friends as of right then, and he didn't want to make thing awkward with more people than he already has.
"Sure? It's worth a go I guess." Soonyoung grinned and smirked to himself just as the bell rang.Time skip to the next time they're doing a speech, but this time it's for exams
Jihoon figeted in his place, waiting for his turn. He wasn't even paying attention to the current speaker. They were probably way better than he would be anyway, so what was the point. Until finally his name was called up to the front. He glanced around at everyone. Once he located Soonyoung, the older gave him a thumbs up and a wink, to which he nervously smiled back.
"Okay, start whenever you're ready."Jihoon took a deep breath, and started to speak. His nerves were still there, even when he had finished 3 sentences. It took him a little bit of courage to look up at the class, specifically at Soonyoung. As quick as his head moved up, it had moved back to focus on the script. He was still rushing, he could tell, but other than that, he was slightly calmer. A few seconds later he looked up again at Soonyoung, and lingered a bit longer. Everytime he did this, he could feel his anxiety level slowly decreasing and by the middle of the speech, he was speaking clearly, not rushing, and regularly looking at Soonyoung for longer periods of time. Before he knew it, he had finished.
"Good improvement from last time Jihoon," the teacher told him on his way back to his seat. Soonyoung turned around to smile at Jihoon and stuck out his tongue in glee.
After class, Soonyoung approached Jihoon.
"It worked! I told you it would work!" He patted him on the back and ruffled his hair, to which Jihoon swiped his hand away.
"Yeah, it did. I wouldn't have expected that. Thanks a lot Soonyoung." The older lowered his head and paused before quietly asking,
"Do you want to eat lunch with me today? I could use some company..." As if reading Jihoon's mind, Soonyoung gave him puppy eyes to change it.
"Na-don't you dare give me puppy eyes-ah for goodness sake. Fine, okay. To repay you I suppose. And only to repay you. Don't get any thoughts now." He didn't even finish before Soonyoung had attempted to get a piggy back but it ended up being a sloppy back hug. His smile was contagious. Jihoon shook his head, but smiled along. Who knows what would happen next.--
I said this was based on a true story, and thats 100% true lol
Basically if you wanna know: i was the soonyoung and one of my classmates was the jihoon, and this exact thing happened but minus me asking them to look at me during the next speech cos i thought 'nope too flirtatious' (im not close with them at all). But it did give me this fanfic idea so i wrote it down lmaoThanks for reading uwu
