Paulina's POVToday was any other day, A busy one at that. Ruby came by with his friends as usual, and I happily greeted them. I haven't seen Oscar since, Which is a good thing right? I sighed shaking my head. The business had calmed down and there were a few people in the bakery.
I was getting the Dough ready to be baked when I heard the bell go off signaling that someone was at the register. I blew a piece of hair from my face, I clapped my hands dusting off the powder as I made my way to the front.
"Hola! Welcome to- Lydia's bakery how may I help you?" I said my voice hitching mid sentence to see Oscar standing at the Register. He smirked at me leaning against the counter. I suddenly got a nervous feeling and started to shift on my feet.
"Yeah can I get a dozen Conchitas please freshly baked if possible. My homies like them warm," He said and I nodded placing the order.
"A dozen freshly baked Conchitas! Coming your way Sal!" I yelled over my shoulder, I heard a bell signaling he received the order.
"Your order will be ready soon," I smiled at Oscar. I organized around the counter before I was going to head back to the dough. Oscar said something but I couldn't quite catch what he said, I turned to look at him to see what he had said.
"You..You have a little," He said reaching in his back pocket for a bandana, He used it to wipe flour of my cheek. His knuckles lightly brushed over my lips, I looked up into his eyes. He had impressively long eyelashes, his eyes were warm pools of a light brown. His cologne invaded my nostrils sending shock waves through my body. A bell snapped us out of out trance, what the hell am I doing?! I quickly shook my head pulling my attention to the freshly baked treats. I rang up the box not along eye contact with Oscar.
"T-that will be $10.50," I stuttered mentally slapping myself for showing my weakness. He pulled out a wad of cash that had a generous amount. He handed it to me and I took it, our fingertips touching slightly. I shifted on my feet trying to keep my posture.
"Here is your change and you box.. Enjoy.. Come back soon," I said pushing a smile, The way I said it made Oscar smirk at me.
"I will hermosa," He said and something about it made my knees go weak, I clutched onto the counter for dear life as I used it to keep myself from falling to the floor. I heard chuckling from behind me and I looked over my shoulder to see Sal wiggling his eyebrows up and down. I glared at him as I made my way back to the dough.

"Thank you so much Elisa I'm so sorry I'm late," I said Signing out Carlitos. My shift at Lisa's ran later than usual and here I was at 8:30pm at night signing him out.
"No worries Paulina.. I know how hard it can be," She said smiling reassuring at me. I smiled at her handing her the clipboard. I took Carlitos in my arms as I walked out of the daycare. I sighed looking at the dark lingering street, I held Carlitos closer to my chest as I walked down the street. The low roar of an engine snapped me out of focus as a white car had pulled up beside me, My heart pumped in my chest as I held Carlitos closer to me. I picked up my pace a little bit, just as I did that so did the car. I picked my pace up into a sprint and the car zoomed down the street to catch up to me. Unpleasant thoughts flooded my mind, but the worse thought of all was Carlitos. I made a split deduction in crossing the street, just as I did the car hauled towards me. I turned my back shielding Carlitos front he car waiting for impact, Screeching tires rang in my ears as I shut my eyes waiting for the pain. It never came. I slowly opened my eyes to see a red Impala had appeared in front of me, Oscar was on the other side sizing up whoever was in the white car. Cesar was in the passenger side looking at me with concerned eyes.
The white car pulled back zooming to the other side of the street. I was panting my heart pumping in my chest. Oscar made his way over to me, He checked me and Carlitos over for any injuries.
"You okay?" He asked his voice low, I nodded swallowing hard. My hand clenching onto his Wife-beater as a sudden wave of dizziness hit you.
"Yeah I'm okay.. Thank you," I whispered looking up at him. He opened the passenger door for me, Cesar quickly moving to the back. I didn't hesitate getting in the car. I placed Carlitos in my lap sitting in the passenger seat. Oscar quickly got in the drivers side, driving down the street. Does he know I'm here? Did he send someone? Oh My God what if he arranged a hit on me?
"Paulina..." Oscar spoke softly snapping me out of thoughts. I sighed rubbing the sleep from my face.
"U-uh thank you so much for the ride Oscar.." I said quickly getting out of his car. I closed the door rushing up the driveway. I took a look around at my surroundings unlocking the door. I locked the door behind me placing Carlitos in the couch.
"Lydia! Lydia!" I yelled and she came out from the kitchen rushing over to me as I sobbed.
"Mija que paso?!" She asked caressing my face, I shook my head sobbing.
"He knows.. He found me.. Lydia I need to leave.. He wi-" I said frantically and she embraced me in a hug trying to calm me down.
"No..No Paulina you are safe here shh," She said and I broke the embrace shaking my head.
"No.. Tonight when I picked Carlitos up from the daycare I was being followed... They almost ran us over.. Lydia I have to leave.. He will not stop. He will keep going and he will kill anyone who gets in his way. I need to leave," I said lowly, Biting my nails pacing back and forth in the wooden floor. She disappeared into her kitchen and I took this time to go upstairs and start packing. I was not going to be the reason I put Lydia in danger, I loved her too much to make her pay for my choices.
I sling the duffle bags over my shoulder as I made my way downstairs. I took Carlitos in my arms, cooing at him so he wouldn't wake up. Lydia came out of the kitchen giving me pleading eyes, I smiled sadly at her kissing her forehead.
"Me Tengo que ir.. Gracias por todo," I geared up kissing her forehead one last time. I've really bonded with her, she was like the mother I never had. I sighed opening the door stopping in tracks, my bags falling on the floor.
"Where do you think you're going?"
