There's honestly lots of different types of timing. Moon phases, times of the day, days of the weak, seasons, hours in the day, planetary hours, and so on. They all have certain correspondences that go along with them, and perhaps the most infamous of them all is the lunar cycle. The moon has fascinated thousands of ancient civilizations since the beginning of time, and it continues to intrigue just as many people today, practitioners or not.
In all honesty, this isn't my favorite type of timing to use for a spell because if you aren't in that particular phase for a certain spell, you have to wait if you want to use it, and that's just not my style. However, the moon is incredibly powerful, so I'd still recommend using it.
So how do you decide what phase of the moon is the right phase for your spell?
You could look it up. I mean, seriously. You'll find it easily.
Or you could read down. Your choice.
New Moons
New moons are the beginning of the cycle. It's also the moon phase that you can never see. It's practically invisible. It's also called the Dark Moon. And because of this, it's really great for the following intentions:
-New anything (new beginnings, new relationships, new phases in life, etc.)
-Positive changes
-Banishment
-Setting intentionsWaxing Moon
This is the next stage in the moon phase. This includes waxing crescent and waxing gibbous. The crescent is when it's... well, a crescent. The gibbous is where it's close to full. Basically the opposite of a crescent. Some places show these having different correspondences, but we'll be putting them together to get just the basics. The way to tell whether a moon is waxing is if the light part is on the left. A waxing moon is perfect for the following:
-Growth
-Learning
-Creativity
-Bringing things into your life
-Transformation
-HealingFull Moon
Many believe that the full moon is the strongest moon phase, and, just like them, I believe that as well. All of the moon's energy is facing you. The full moon is when magick is heightened in general. This is a great time to do any spellwork. It's also good for the following:
-Wishes
-Cleansing
-Divination (as the moon rules this, especially scrying)
-ProtectionWaning Moon
This looks the same as a waxing moon, but the light is on the right this time. Once again, we'll be putting the crescent and gibbous moon together for this.
-Letting go
-Banishment
-Cleansing
-Releasing
-Opening up
-Pushing things away from youNow, as you may know, different full moons in different months have certain names, both common and uncommon. These also have their own correspondences, but I'll be making a separate post for this and month correspondences.
So this one was relatively short, but I feel like it got in a lot of important information at the same time.
Until next time, happy crafting!
