Keith

A knock came to the door early Thursday morning.

"My Prince." A maid says knocking on the door. "Your father has requested that I wake you up for your journey to the Springs for the Harvest Festival."

I groan and ignore the call from outside of my door. It was way too damn early to be going anywhere around here.

The knock comes again. "Uh...my prince?"

I finally sit up. "I'm awake." I call out in a raspy voice. "Well your father has requested you to leave for the festival." She repeats again.

"Tell him that I'm going to need an extra hour." I call out.

"But...my prince? The festival starts in—

I swing open the door and give the lady a cold look. Her eyes widen and she swallows. "I'll tell him that you need extra time."

I smile at her. "Thank you." I slam the door. I chuckle going to my closet. My smile then slowly fades as I think about what I just did. That was an asshole move. Something only my father would do. And I just did it. I can't turn out like him.

I start to put on my white button up shirt when another knock comes to my door.

"What?" I yell.

"Damn, sir. You mad?" A chuckling voice says. I roll my eyes and open my door for my best friend Woody.

"Aye brotha." I dap him up.

"So how you been?"

I lean back on my bed. "Man, it's been hard. Having to follow my dad everyday. Doing what he says he wants me to do when I rule someday."

"Isn't that your decision?"

"It is." I sit back up. "This is my first day leaving these castle walls and actually seeing my people."

"Baby steps, Powers. Baby steps. Maybe this is all in the long run."

"What long run? Because I think that nineteen years is too long."

"Look at this place, man. Look on the bright-side. Everyone is happy here."

"For some reason, I just don't believe that." I mess around with my chains that were sitting on my nightstand.

"What you mean?"

"I mean exactly what I said. I don't believe that everyone is living happily out here."

"And how would you know, Princess Jasmine?" You never even left these castle walls." Woody asks leaning back onto my wall with his arms folded.

"There is no way that this place is free of conflict."

"Conflict." He repeats strangely. "And what do you know about conflict?'

"Nothing big. But I go to the library, and I read those books they have. In the stories, there's always some type of conflict or problem going on in the outside world."

"But we're not the outside world. We're Amouromna."

"But we're apart of the earth."

"Man, you funny. I don't know why the hell you all of a sudden want to act like you have problems in your life. Ain't nothing wrong with you, princess."

I ignore him and go to my closet and put on a white button up strap with red velvet stash over it, some black dress pants, and my crown.

"Why you still gotta dress all fancy when you going to a harvest festival?"
