Quick Author's Note: This is in an AU where Flowey actually does kill Frisk for good and wins in the Pacifist run.

Flowey thought he had cleared out the underground. He thought that every soul, every monster was gone. So he left and continued to the surface.

But he missed one monster. You.

You were so young and weak that he never even detected your soul, and as a result, he couldn't find it and take it.

So there you were. Young, alone, and terrified. You muddled through the underground eating whatever was left behind for sustenance. Occasionally you would hear a distant, echoing laugh and screams from above the ground.

One day, while scrounging around for food in the Waterfall area, you fell and landed in the water, making a huge splash.

"Who's there?" Creaked an ominous voice somewhere in the distance. You froze. Someone was down here?! You weren't alone!

Ignoring the burning intuition that this was foolishly dangerous, you sprinted in the direction of the voice. You rounded a corner and......

It was like a nightmare come to life. Like a cross between a plant, a computer, and something else you couldn't quite describe. Terrified, you spun around and ran the other way, but your path was blocked by a massive thorny arm.

You curled up into a quivering ball on the ground, unsure of what to do and afraid for your life. You felt a rope-like tendril coil around your body and lift you upward.

"What's this?" Screeched the abomination. "I thought I killed all the monsters! Looks like I managed to miss one! Silly me!"

It cackled for a moment, then fell silent. Curiously, you peeked out from behind your hands. The beast looked almost...... concerned?

"Wh-who are y-y-you?" You asked shakily.

"Flowey..." it answered in its best attempt at a gentle voice. "And you are?"

"(Y/N)... You're the one who killed everyone, aren't you? Are you going to hurt me?"

Flowey loosened his grip on you slightly. "I am... but you're just a weakling... k-killing you would be pointless! Yeah, you're not worth it!"

//Flowey P.O.V.//

What's going on... why am I pitying this child?! I'm not supposed to feel sorry! I'm not supposed to feel ANYTHING! Stop it! Stop it! Why am I making excuses for sparing them?! I should just kill them and be done with it! I... should...

...

They... they're scared and alone... like... me...

NO! That's Asriel! He's relating to the child! GET OUT OF MY HEAD! I AM FLOWEY, NOT ASRIEL! I DON'T SHOW MERCY! I LAUGH AT PAIN! I AM A GOD, NOT A SYMPATHIZER!

I...!

I...

Give... up...

//Your P.O.V.//

Flowey dropped you. You yelped in pain as you hit the ground, then looked up to see what was going on.

He was crying. He looked miserable.

As scary as Flowey was, you kind of felt worried for him. You put a (hand/paw/etc.) on one of his many trembling vines. He stared down and tried to smile.

"I-it's okay, kid... I'm fine..." He said breathlessly, then scooped you up in one of his bigger vine-arms.

"Why are you sad?" You asked.

Flowey wiped a tear from one of his lower eyes. "I... I can't give back the souls I've taken. It's too late, all of the monster bodies are gone, so there would be nowhere for the souls to go. Same with the human souls..."

You didn't really understand what he was going on about, so you just patted the side of his weird fleshy snout, hoping to comfort him.

He kept rambling anyway. "I've been terrorizing everyone aboveground... I don't know why I even came back down here... maybe your soul had grown strong enough that I sensed it?"

"I don't know much about souls," you admitted, "but I know you destroyed all the other monsters, and that's a bad thing."

"I know."

"Are you sorry?"

"Huh?"

"Are you sorry that you hurt everyone?" You repeated.

"Yes... I am."

You beamed and patted his snout again. "Then I forgive you! You can't change what you did before, but if you're sorry and won't do it again it's okay!"

Flowey's face screen filled with static, then his face reappeared with a glazed expression.

"But I can change it..." he whispered. A glow came from deep inside his tangled body.

"What's happening, Flowey?"

"I'm going to give you some of my Determination, so you will remember this encounter. Then I will go back and make amends with everyone and help them break the barrier! I'll free everyone and no one will have to die! And then, once everything settles... we can meet up again!"

"I don't get it..."

Flowey nodded patiently. "Let's just say I'm going to make things right."

Everything went white.

Weeks later...

You and your family were packing up to leave the underground like all the other monsters. You decided to take a break from packing and went outside.

Sitting on the ground, you doodled in the dirt for a while. Then, you heard a voice next to you.

"Howdy, (Y/N)."

You looked over and saw a little yellow flower with a smiling face. "You didn't forget about me, didja?"

A smile spread across your face instantly. "Flowey! Is that you? Why are you so small?"

"I don't have all those souls in me anymore. But it looks like my gift of Determination worked since you remember me!"

"Are you still sad, Flowey?"

"About that... I can't feel much since I don't have any soul left... but I remember how I felt, so I'll try to act on that. I won't make the mistake of giving up again. Who knows, maybe there's still something of a soul left in there, and it just needs time to grow back."

"You stopped making sense again," you giggled.

"I know."
