How in the world is this thing still alive?

Sure, I liked (Y/N) well enough, so it's not a question I ask myself in disgust. At least, not anymore. I'll admit it took me quite some time to accept the little abomination.

But seriously. They were unstable enough to begin with, always having their body in a perpetual state of melting, and needing constant specific care to not fall apart altogether. So how the hell are they ten years old now?

"Met, can you keep up with (Y/N) for a bit?" Alphys asked as she gathered her things. "I've been called over to Asgore's for an urgent matter."

I looked away from the oven I was preheating. "Depends. How long will you be? I'm making lasagna to take over to Tori's potluck, then I have an appearance on a talk show tonight."

Alphys sighed as she opened the front door. "I don't know, it's kind of a complicated situation. I don't think I'll be able to make it to the potluck, though, that's for sure. Just... do your best, okay?"

Before I could answer, she slammed the door shut behind her. The oven dinged, and I balanced a chef's hat upon my rectangular body (the wheel I had in this form made it easier to move about the kitchen quickly). I called (Y/N)'s name.

Nothing. I called again. Still nothing.

I turned around and nearly screamed in shock to see them standing right there. They've grown quite a bit, being nearly my own height now. There are a few extra eyes now, too.

"Don't sneak up on me like that!" I beeped angrily. "How did you even... whatever. Listen, Al had to leave and put me in charge. I'm going to be right here in the kitchen, so don't do anything stupid, alright?"

They blinked each eye one by one. I had no idea if they understood or not, but I was already too irritated to care. I got the ingredients ready for the lasagna and got to work.

(Y/N) watched with fascination as I prepared the meal. I had to shoo them away from the unfinished dish more than once, though.

Still, in the end, it came out pretty decent, and without a moment to spare; I was nearly late. Alphys still wasn't back, as she had said, so I had no choice but to bring (Y/N) along with me. I didn't trust them not to get into the food now that they had seen where to get it from.

We arrived at Toriel's quaint home with little incident, although I had to hold (Y/N) back to keep them from chasing a squirrel on the way.

I rang the doorbell, a sound that seemed to cause great confusion in (Y/N).

Frisk answered the door, giving me a welcoming smile before noticing (Y/N) and tilting their head.

"Who's your friend?"

Shit, I never introduced them!

"This, uh..." I looked at (Y/N), who was staring at the human while oozing more than usual.

"(Y/N) here is, uh... a friend of Alphys. Long story."

"Cool. Nice to meetcha." Frisk held their hand out to (Y/N), who placed a slimy (paw/claw/hand/whatever appendage) in it, an attempt at a handshake. It was the most socially sophisticated action I've ever seen from the thing.

Frisk seemed totally unfazed, stepping inside to let us in.

"Mettaton's here! And he brought a friend!"

Toriel, Undyne, Sans, and Papyrus were all in the living room, and they all gave me a standard warm welcome.

"Where's Alphys?" Undyne asked.

"She couldn't make it, she had an errand to run."

Papyrus practically flew off the sofa at the sight of (Y/N). "THE PUP IS HERE!!!!"

(Y/N) made an excited gargling noise and leaped into Papyrus' arms, nearly knocking the skeleton over.

"Ah... who is this?" Toriel inquired politely.

I told her the same thing I told Frisk, and she smiled; clearly confused and a little off-put, but trying her best to be courteous.

"Well then, now that... everybody... is here, why don't we get to dinner?"

I held up my lasagna proudly. "We feast!"
