~¤~"Link I... See you later..."
The bittersweet words rang through his head constantly since they left her lips... Midna.. It had been only a week since Link had defeated Ganondorf. A week since the curse placed on Midna had been lifted.. A week since he stood with her at the mirror chamber of sages... A week since she shattered the Twilight mirror, and unintentionally, his heart. He never even got to say goodbye, or tell her how he came to feel for her. Yes, the relationship was rocky at first, but as time progressed, so did their trust and compassion for each other. They went from trying to kill each other, to Midna risking her life to protect Link's.. That was the most terrifying experience of his life. He didn't want to lose Midna, no, he loved her too much to let her go. Her smile, her laugh, her feisty personality. All of it.. all of her. He wanted it all back. To say the hero missed the Twilian was an understatement. Ever since Link returned to Ordon he never once left his house, or rather his bed. Every hour of every day he grieved for his broken heart, praying to every goddess that would listen to piece back together the shattered remnants of his soul. To fill the void in his heart that she had left. Everyone in the village worried for Link, going as far as princess Zelda herself to find out what had broken their friend. Zelda's only reply would be "He's been through a lot, give him a few days."
Days turned to weeks. Weeks to months. Lost in his wallowing and solitude, Link wished nothing more than for his life to end, mind and spirit fully consumed in its grief. There had been attempts, yes, but usually never on purpose. Clearing out the remaining monsters in Hyrule was, after all, his final task as hero, and if a monster were to get a lucky hit on him well, who was he to complain? Zelda came to notice the growing number of injuries in the hero and decided she had had enough. This final time she herself had drug him to her castle by the collar of his forest green tunic, and not too gently into her study. "Link." Came her soft yet firm voice. "I have sat idly by for far too long giving you the benefit of the doubt. I understand that you grieve for her, but that cannot be changed by handing over your life. I know your heart aches for her, but would she want this? Were she here for herself she would've already slapped the sense into you!" Link sat silently with his head hung low. "I just.. feel so lost without her.. I need her, Zelda. I never thought I would need anyone as much as I need her.. You have to help me see her again Zelda.. I-I don't care what it takes, I just need to see her one more time.." Zelda started at him in shock, watching a few rogue tears cascade down his sullen face. "I'll... I'll see if I can find anything, but Link.. She shattered the mirror.."
"And i'll sit there on my hands and knees piecing it back together shard by shard if that's what it takes." Zelda sighed, there was no getting through to him at this point. "I'll look into it, but don't get your hopes up."~¤~
It was two months later when Link got the summons to Hyrule Castle that he had been waiting for. Urging Epona on as fast as she could, Link wasted no time running through the bustling streets of Castle Town, straight towards the path to the castle. The guards had no chance to greet the hero as he ran as fast as his legs could carry him through the courtyard, up the stairs, and straight into Zelda's Study. "Ah Link, I'm glad you could make it! I have wonderful news!" Link stayed silent, hope glimmering in his deep sapphire eyes, urging her to continue. "Long ago, before the Hylian-Twili war, the late ruler of the twilight realm gifted my great grandfather with a second twilight mirror. It was said to be a gift for the king to use should he ever have need of their help. As time progressed and the war raged on, the king hid the mirror away, leaving it forgotten deep in the castle. After reading about this I thought that should it remain in the castle, it surely couldn't have survived Ganondorf's assault on the castle. We scoured every inch of the castle, and through what can only be the benevolence of the goddess Hylia herself.. well," Zelda stepped aside to reveal a mirror, identical in every way to the mirror Midna had shattered. "As princess of this kingdom, I gift to you this mirror of twilight as thanks for your sacrifice and heroism in Hyrule's darkest hours." Tears welled up in Link's eyes as he ran forward to engulf Zelda in a crushing hug. "Take this mirror to the chamber and place it where the old one once sat, the way to the twilight realm will surely open. Good luck Link."

Nervousness filled every inch of Link's being as he placed the mirror on its pedestal. At first, nothing happened, and worry flooded his being. Just as he was about to admit defeat, a bright light surrounded the mirror, and the all too familiar portal glowed to life. The smile that broke out on Link's face was wide as he rushed up the steps without a second thought.

When Link opened his eyes he was met with a welcoming sight, Twilians walked around the center of town, illuminated by the twin Sols that sat in their pedestals. As he approached the center, the few Twili that remained immediately recognized him as the hero who had saved their tribe, and returned their princess safely, greeting him with smiles.

Midna sat in her throne room, staring longingly out the window to her right. She had been very busy in these past few months, so busy in fact that she hadn't the time to properly think about the hero clad in green once. Now as things are quiet and all was well in her kingdom, the emotions hit her with the force of a bulbin and she collapsed in on herself, sobs wracking her body as every suppressed feeling came bubbling to the top. How she missed him so.. his gentle smile, his dirty blonde hair, his silly green hat that she just adored teasing him about, the softness of his voice she longed to hear once more. She thought back to that moment, the look of sheer hurt in his beautiful blue eyes completely shattered her as more powerful sobs wracked her body and streamed down her face.

Link ran through the familiar halls of the castle, each twist and turn that brought him closer to his destination only made him run faster. In a final sprint he burst through the doors, startling everyone inside. Midna looked up and fiery red met cool blue. The room was deathly silent as the two started at each other in disbelief. Link slowly walked to the center of the room, never once taking his eyes off of the beautiful Twili woman he had come to love. Link's mouth opened to speak before Midna ran to him and engulfed him in a desperate hug, peppering kissed along his face, everywhere she could. Link smiled and steadied her face in his hands, looking deep into her eyes.
"It's later.. my princess.."
