It was late into the winter and even later into the war. Hyrulean soldiers were getting sick left and right, renduring the allied base silent and void of its usual hustle and bustle of daily training. This left those few who were still able to take on the task of watching over the sick.. well except Volga. Volga didnt really care for any of those Hyrulean soldiers, his mind was preoccupied with one thing. 'Where in the name of Hylia is Link?' He was strong, far stronger than the rest of these so called warriors, there was no way he would succumb to the ways of the other soldiers. At least, that's what Volga thought anyways. How wrong he was.

"Royal Whelp! Where is Link at?" The dragon knight called out to Princess Zelda as she walked past. Despite his rudeness, Zelda smiled and replied: "Link is resting currently. It seems he has fallen ill as well." Volga huffed, light smoke leaving his lips. There was no way Link was resting, he wasn't capable of it, that much Volga was certain of. Always bounding with energy, never ceasing to pester the dragon knight. Despite that, Volga found himself walking to the soldier's barracks, searching for Link.

As the brash knight pushed through the flaps of the tent, every soldier tensed in fear, despite the sickness gripping them. Volga scoffed at them as he walked to the very back, where a certain blonde was, in fact, resting in his bed. It was apparent that he was suffering, but he didnt show it near as much as these cowardly soldiers. Link felt the side of his bed dip suddenly as a weight was added to it. Tired sapphire eyes opened slowly to meet the emerald green of the dragon knight's. "I didn't believe that whelp when she said you were suffering the same fate as these pathetic soldiers, so I came to see for myself. If you are down and bedridden then you must really be sick." Link smiled weakly up at Volga. The dragon knight was harsh yes, but he possessed a rather large soft spot when it came to the hero. Sure he would be enraged with the boy at times, but he never treated him the same as he would the rest when he was angry. If a Hyrulean soldier made him angry, well.. it'd be a lie if we said that the camp remained unburned. But when Link made him angry, the dragon knight only gave a small huff of smoke before storming off. And now, here the dragon knight sits, voice speaking with a softness the soldiers had never heard or thought possible of him. His hands roamed gently through the messy blonde locks that sat upon Link's head. The soldiers stared at him in utter disbelief. This was NOT the Volga they knew. He was kind, gentle, speaking softly to Link, smiling down at the boy whenever his hands would reach to grasp the dragon knight's larger one. The sight was foreign to everyone.. everyone but Link.

All of Volga's attention remained on Link, the only time he took his eyes off of him was when Zelda or Impa came in to check on everyone. When that time came, Volga's eyes and actions lost they're softness, hardening into a pointed glare as they checked on his hero. He was perfectly capable of keeping an eye on him. He didn't need anyone else fawning over his hylian.

After the fifth check in, Volga had had enough. As soon as the princess left, Volga carefully swept Link off of his bed and into his arms. Link did nothing but chuckle weakly at the dragon knight's jealous and possessive nature, curling himself closer to Volga's chest as he walked out. The other bedridden soldiers stared in shock as Volga left, just like that. Link knew very well where Volga was taking him: to his lair. Volga spent much of his time in solitude in caves scattered around the battlefield they found themselves on. Each dwelling filled with various pieces of armor, weapons, gold and gems, anything shiny really that the dragon knight hoarded. After all, those were his treasures, and Volga has made it very clear many times that no one is to enter his dwelling. No one except Link of course. The first time Link will admit was rather stupid, but Volga quickly got over it. Besides, Volga felt that Link belonged among his vast amount of treasures, being protected and coveted by the dragon himself. That very reason is why Volga is taking him there now.

A few hours later Zelda came back to check on the soldiers, noticing then that Link was no longer there. "Where is Link at?" She asked aloud. One of the Hylian captains answered "That dragon knight Volga carried him out as soon as you left the last time your majesty. There is no telling where he is now." Zelda nodded before walking out to fetch Impa. "It would seem we have to go a little farther to check on Link now."

It was silent in the cool caverns Impa and Zelda found themselves in. "Your majesty, are you certain we should continue forward?" Zelda chuckled softly. "We are just checking on Link, and then we are leaving." Impa was still wary, but proceeded forward with her princess anyways. As they approached the end of the cave, they saw a soft glow of torch light illuminating the space, light bouncing off of the reflective surfaces of the piles of treasure. In the middle of all those piles sat a large red dragon, Volga. Zelda approached him, his head lifting at the intruding footsteps, a large, vibrant green eye opening to glare at her. "Volga I've come to check up on Link. His health is just as important to myself as it is to you. May I please see him?" The large green eye rolled as a giant, leathery wing raised up, revealing a sleeping Link pressed into the dragon's stomach, the rest of the dragon coiled tightly and protectively around him. Zelda chuckled softly at his protectiveness, but proceeded to look over Link. "He seems to be doing much better than the rest of the soldiers. Thank you for looking after him Volga. You're taking such good care of him." Volga moved his head back to nuzzle against Link once more, his wing covering them once more. He didn't need Zelda telling him what he already knew.

Zelda and Impa returned to base. "Well? Did you find him?" Lana asked as soon as she saw them enter. "Volga is taking good care of him, I see no reason for him to not make a full recovery very soon." The soldiers overheard this and looked between themselves in shock. Volga? Taking care of Link? It seemed so obsurd to say out loud, but they had no choice but to believe it.

Volga did have a soft spot for the Hyilan after all.
