Changing The Ill-Fated Course
**********
Devon and Hillary landed on the forest ground with ease. Their enemies were still on pursuit to following their trails. They would not stop unless the Princess was killed by their hands.
"Princess go North and seek refuge to the Avalon Kingdom, they will help you... " Devon said after landing and turned to other direction to flee but was stop by Hillary's trembling pair of beautiful candle-like fingers.
"Princess..."
"Don't leave me..." She whispered so softly that it could not be heard by ordinary person unless they had martial training and keen hearing. But Devon did. He heard her tiny voice with a hint of fear and tremble on it.
Hillary tightened her hold on his wide sleeves. She would not make the same mistake of venturing alone on the road to Avalon Kingdom.
"Princess, I need to distract the enemies so you could be safe. This is for your own good..." Devon's voice held a slight helplessness as he held the Princess soft hands to release his sleeves. Hillary's hands fell on her sides as she bowed her head.
"Take care, Princess..."
When Devon took a couple of steps away, a patter of tears on the ground was heard by his sensitive and trained ears. He suddenly stopped midway and turned abruptly. What he saw made his heart felt uneasy and his stoic face to crack with an emotion that could not be fathom.
Devon sighed. "Come here..."
Hillary looked up once he heard that unfeeling voice. Her gorgeous puffy eyes which was so clear that one would thought it can see through a person's soul was full of tears, meet his cold ones. She smiled with that mesmerizing pair of cherry lips despite her tears continuing to cascade down on her pinkish cheeks.
"You're the best..." Hillary mumbled in gratitude towards her guardian.
Devon, on the other hand, felt a sudden jolt on his heart at that complimentary words spoken by the Princess.
"Wiped off your tears, Princess..."
Hillary nodded and followed what he said. She, then, went to Devon's side and held his callous hand saying, "Next time, don't make me cry and go alone, okay?"
She gave him a beaming smile yet there was still remnants of her tears on her cheeks that dried with the wind. Despite that, she became even more beautiful in his eyes.
Devon could hear the fast beating of his heart. But he did not know what it means.
