Peter was excited. He'd been planning to ask you to his junior prom for months, he just needed to find the right time to do it. Today was it.

The boy walked into your room and lightly shut the door behind him, turning with a grin. He pulled out a rose from behind his back, walking over to you with it out in front of him. But when he saw your emotionless face, the grin was wiped off of his lips.

"Baby, whats wrong?" Peter asked worriedly, setting the rose on your dresser and sitting beside you.

You don't deserve him.
You told yourself so much you started to believe it.
So what other solution is there than to let him go?

"I don't love you anymore."

Sure, it was a lie, but it was the only way.

His face fell. "W-what?" He stuttered, not expecting the words that came out of your mouth.

You focused on the comforter, incapable of looking at him directly. "I don't love you anymore." You repeated.

Peter searched for any emotion on your face, but found none. "H-how?" He was confused beyond belief. "You can't just stop loving someone."

You shrugged.

He was a mess of emotions. He came over to ask you to prom, and now you're saying you don't love him.

You brought your knees up to your chest, wrapping your arms around your legs. "Please leave." The words were just above a whisper, but seemed to pound into his head.

He shook his head, refusing.

You shut your eyes, trying your
hardest to push back the tears. "Pete-"

"No." His voice was firm. "I'm not leaving. Just talk to me baby."

"I am talking. Fuck off."

Peter sighed. "y/n, I love you."

"Where?" You raised your voice, finally turning to look at him.

He scrunched his brows. "What?"

"Where? Where is this, this love? I can't see it, I-I can't touch it. I mean, I can hear it. I can hear some words, but what am I gonna do with that? Meaningless words?"

Peter scoffed. "They're not meaningless!" He stood from the bed, looking at you with bewildered eyes. "That means something to me, 'I love you' means something!"

It was silent. So silent you could hear your heart beating. "Whatever you say won't change anything." You shook your head. "It's too late."

He kneeled beside you, placing his hand on your leg. "Please, don't do this." His voice was frail.

You pushed his hand off. "I have to." You didn't want to show him how you felt, but it was out of your control by now. The crying wouldn't stop.
"Peter, get out."

He stayed for a few seconds, hoping you'd change your mind and realize that this was a mistake, that this isn't how you really felt, but you didn't. You didn't ask him to stay, or to hug you, or to forget this ever happened.

"Now."

Your eyes met his, and a sad smile couldn't help but cross his face. Because he didn't know what was going on with you, or why you decided to end the relationship, but you were his first real love. You were someone he'd never forget. And as he stood up and made his way to the door, he couldn't help but glance back at you and wonder, 'Did I do this?'

You sighed. "It's not your fault, Pete." You knew he'd think it was his doing that made this happen.

Though it didn't reassure him, he smiled anyways.

His heart was broken.
