I sat on the couch next to Billy, awkwardly staring at the ground. He had woken up just a few minutes before, so I helped him up onto the couch and made some coffee.

As I sat there, my mind continued to wander to Mike. How he was with Eleven, how he almost kissed her with me standing right next to them. I felt tears fall down my cheeks.

"Rough night," Billy asked, pulling me out of my daze.

I cleared my throat, wiping my eyes. "Yeah."

"Wanna talk about it?" I shrugged. "Maybe I can help."

"Just guy problems."

"Tell me more."

"I never used to be the way I am now. I pulled away from almost everyone. Then I reconnected. I was still the bad ass, overprotective, depressed girl that everyone thought I was, but I needed people. My twin had gone missing, and I needed more support. Then I got into an accident-"

"What type of accident?"

"A... bear attack. I was in the woods, and a bear buried its claw into my chest. I was in a coma for about a year. After I woke up, I was different. I was social, happy. I wasn't afraid to show my scars. I was wearing bright clothes, I was smiling. When I woke up, Mike Wheeler was there, holding my hand. He asked me to be his girlfriend. From then on, things were great between us."

"Then, what's the problem?"

"Things were great until tonight. The night I had gotten into the accident, Mike had kissed a girl. When I woke up, he said she had... moved away. She came back... tonight. I couldn't believe it, but that wasn't the problem. When she was getting ready to leave, they almost kissed. I was standing right next to them."

"Wow. That's harsh."

I nodded. "Yeah. I ran to my bedroom and didn't come out until I heard you fighting with Steve. Mike didn't even come to see what was wrong." I was holding back tears. Some slipped.

"So, how much did he like this girl?"

"I have no idea. I think he liked her a lot though. I saw how he looked at her before my accident."

"Do you think that, maybe, he was using you as a rebound?"

"What does that mean?"

"He was using you as a distraction from his broken heart."

"So, maybe, he didn't actually like me?"

"Maybe, but that's okay."

"No, it's not. I should've noticed." I brought my knees up to my chest, crying. "I'm so naive."

"No, you're not." He awkwardly wrapped his arms around me to comfort me. "Trust me, you're not." I dropped my legs and cried into his chest. "He's an idiot. I'm not usually this nice to strangers, but I can tell that you're different. Just calm down." Billy stroked my hair. "Let's get you to your bedroom." He lifted me up bridal style and took me to my room. "Get some sleep. You'll need it. Thank you, by the way. I don't think anyone else would've been so nice after what I did to Harrington."

"He deserved it."

"What?"

"Steve deserved it. He bullied my older brother. I'm not sure if he does anymore, but he used to. I still don't like him, but I like him more than I used to."

"Alright. I'm going to be in the living room if you need me."

"Okay."

Billy's POV

"Okay," Y/N whispered before closing her eyes.

I went out of the room and closed the door as quietly as I could. I sat down on the couch and finished drinking my coffee before going and putting the cup in the sink. I felt bad for Y/N. I heard the front door open and close loudly.
