A New Beginning

I sat on the toilet in the bathroom, looking down at the test in my hand. I was pregnant. If I hadn't been such an idiot, this wouldn't have happened. This was the third time I'd tested this week, each one came up positive. He was everyone going to react? My family? Lucas, Dustin, Max, and Eleven? Mike? Oh God, how is Mike going to react? I was screwed.

Out of fear, I made almost the most irrational decision in my life.

I went to my room and packed clothes and pictures of everyone. Afterwards, I went to the kitchen and wrote a note for my mom. I had a few hundred dollars, so it should last a while. I walked outside and looked back at the house one more time before walking away from my life for a while.

I walked into the apartment that I shared with my room mate, Lyla. It had been nine months since I left Hawkins, the baby was due at any time.

"Lyla, I'm home!" I yelled as I closed the door. I walked toward the kitchen, the smell of pasta sauce becoming very clear. "Spaghetti?" I walked into the kitchen, seeing her put the sauce and hamburger on noodles.

"Correct. I hope you're hungry."

"We are." I rubbed my belly. My breathing hitched as I felt a wet spot grow in my pants. "Lyla... I think my water just broke."

"Oh shit." She dropped the spoon. "We gotta go. Like, now." I nodded. Thank God we live on the first floor. We walked out of the apartment building and out to the car.

I laid down in the back seat, contractions beginning to shoot pain through my stomach. "Hurry, Lyla."

"I'm going as fast as I can, Y/N. If I go any faster, I'm getting pulled over." She meant what she said.

I laid in my hospital bed, waiting for Lyla to bring back what I'd asked. I wanted her to bring my walkie talkie to the hospital. Every night, one of the guys or even Max and Eleven would talk and try to get a hold of me. I would be getting out of the hospital within the next few days.

The nurses were checking my baby's sight, reflexes, and other things to be sure he's okay. I was so happy. Never in my life had I thought that I would be so far away from home, so far away from the father of my child when I gave birth to it, but now, I couldn't picture it any other way. I didn't want to.

The nurse brought my little boy over to me. He was fine, healthy.

"Hi, baby boy," I whispered as I cradled him in my arms. "My little man. My little Will. My new beginning."

"You can't stay away forever, Y/N. Please, just come home." Billy's voice rang over the phone. He was the only person who knew where I was. "We need you. You've been gone for, what, five years now? It's time."

"Billy, I told you already that I'd think about it."

"You've been thinking about it for almost a year. Have you even asked Will what he wants?"

"Of course I have. He wants to go to Hawkins."

"Then bring him here. I'll pay for the tickets myself if I have to."

"No. I'm still thinking about it. Do you wanna say 'hi' to Will real quick?"

"Of course."

I kneeled down and handed the phone to Will. "Go ahead."

"Hi, Uncle Billy." A pause. "Yeah. I've been good... Yeah, I'm helping mommy... I will. I love you, Uncle Billy. Bye." He put the phone back in its original place. "Uncle Billy says he loves you and misses you."

"Good. It's a good thing that it was my turn to call him this week. If it wasn't, he would've found out the surprise."

Will laughed. "Yeah. That would've... um..."

"Disappointed?"

"Yeah. Dispoint me." I laughed at how he said 'disappointed.'

"Me too. Now let's hurry before we miss our flight."
