The Muffin Man

Not Accounted For

"I've come as quick as I could," Officer Fairbanks said upon meeting Chief Callaway at the station at midnight. "What is this about?"

Chief Callaway put a file on the table. It read The Muffin Man Case. "What we say in here is to be kept completely confidential, is that understood?" Fairbanks nodded. "You see, in the end, all the dead bodies were claimed and accounted for. As you know, we were never able to get back in touch with Mr. or Mrs. Tatas. But as only I know, the body of Thomes Tatas mysteriously vanished at the scene in Monni's and was never accounted for."

"Wasn't he drowned in the toilet?" Officer Fairbanks asked. "And a funeral-"

"Closed casket."

"Well, where do you think his body is? He couldn't have went down the toilet or anything. And I don't think anyone would steal it," Officer Fairbanks said.

"That kid went around us by going through the plumbing. Morgan Cooper, when drowning him never checked to see if he was dead or not, being too concerned with that Neil Flammel. Who's to say he didn't escape by means of which he got in?" Chief Callaway said, looking out the window drearily.

After looking through the file, Officer Fairbanks said,"So, he escaped via toilet?"

"Yes, via toilet! Thomes Tatas is still out there, Fairbanks!"

"Why are you telling me this?"

"This can never get back to anyone else because it is our mistake how he escaped."

Just as Chief Callaway said that there was a call from the high school saying that someone dressed as the Muffin Man for the Thriller Dance had shot two students who were making out outside of the building and then shot himself. The names of the couple were Hunter Day and Morgan Cooper.

When arriving, Chief Callaway removed the mask of the Muffin Man immediately, revealing it was Thomes Tatas.

"Now he's accounted for," said the chief. "And we are done here, Fairbanks."

Officer Fairbanks nodded, crumbs of blueberry muffin falling out of his mouth.
