John Henry "Doc" Holiday held a pistol in each hand as he slowly and silently moved up the stairs. While carried no Peacemaker, he was the best gunslinger around. He was able to make any shot. He couldn't kill a revenant, he was going to make they wished they had never returned from Hell. He stayed in the shadows, but there were no revenants to encounter along the way.
Doc stood on the second floor and heard gunshots from below. He concentrated. A hiss of revenants vibrated off the walls, and Doc followed the sound. He held his guns to attention. A light shone from a room, and he crept along the wall, listening to the quick whispers and hushed tones. Panic poked in the voices.
Doc paused and then swung in, training his guns on the targets. Three revenants were in the room. The two on the outside corners Doc didn't know. Standing in the middle, next to her abducted victim, was Rosita. Turning toward him, her eyes sparkled red. Her voice changed as she spoke, "Hello, Doc."
"Rosita," Doc acknowledged, "let me daughter go."
"She's free to go anytime she likes."
Behind her, Alice hung from the ceiling, arms pulled up, and Doc remembered her left arm wasn't supposed to be able to do that anymore. Her back was exposed as she rotated, and blood oozed from it. Deep long lines ran down her back. Blood covered the floor, mixed with sweat that came from Alice's body.
Rosita smiled at Doc. "You wouldn't kill me, Doc."
"I would if I had Peacemaker." His eyes traveled to Alice's Peacemaker, which was in the corner.
"I doubt that." Rosita played a dangerous game. "Do you remember the fun times we had? We were happy."
"You've kidnapped my daughter. We are no longer happy."
"It's Wynonna's fault."
"She was trying to help you."
Rosita scoffed. "She threatened me, and you think that is helping, Doc." She rolled her eyes. "I do apologize for Alice, but I would never kill her, Doc."
"Why did you tell Wynonna that you would?"
"I needed her to feel the pain and anger that I had. I couldn't make Wynonna angry by hurting her."
"So you hurt my little girl instead?"
Rosita pursed her lips before they curled into a smile. "She's not your little girl, Doc. She may have your DNA, but she is Dolls' daughter in and out. He did raise her after all. He probably tried to raise her strong, but I have never met a more weak Earp. She started screaming and crying after the first lash."
Alice's body spun around again and showed her exposed and worn skin. It was dark enough in the room to give some mystery, but it was obvious about what happened to hurt her. Her back wasn't the only thing that bled, but it was the worst. A belt laid in the corner with blood on it. Rosita had specks of blood on her face.
"I didn't get to her first," Rosita said, "or at least I don't think so."
Doc aimed his gun at Rosita's chest.
"Doc," Rosita said. "She'll survive. It'll just be Wynonna in pain. She failed as a mother."
"Do not say that about Wynonna, and never touch my daughter again." Doc shot Rosita in the chest, and she hit the ground. With his fast hands, he shot the other two revenants in the heads. He holstered his guns as he ran over to Alice. Placing his hand underneath her nose, he felt her shallow breathing. Doc reached up and tried to undo her restraints, but it didn't work.
"Doc?" Alice murmured, one eye opening. The other one was purple and puffed.
"Hey, Alice, can you stay awake for me?" Doc yelled to Wynonna and Dolls, "Up here, now!" Doc turned his attention to Alice, and her eye had closed again. Reaching up, he touched her forehead and felt it burning. He held her head up.
There was a rush of steps, and Doc pulled out his gun, aiming it at the door. Wynonna and Dolls came running through. Wynonna rushed over to her daughter, eyes across her back and mouth open in horror. When the two revenants started to groan on the floor, Wynonna sent them back to Hell. Dolls removed Alice's restraints, and she was laid on the floor on her side. Blood collected on the floor.
"Where is Rosita?" Wynonna asked, smoothing down Alice's hair.
"She's right—" Doc looked behind Dolls, and Rosita was gone. She must've escaped before Wynonna even came in because there was no way Wynonna would've let her get away. His face turned hard and his lips turned into a line. "Damn it." Shaking his head, Doc looked down to his daughter with concern etched into his face.
