A black mass rose and fell slowly in the late afternoon sun. The guards around the castle had ignored the wolf since Melody had first set foot on the grounds. The wolf was her companion which let him travel the grounds freely as long as he did not set foot in the castle. Only the soldiers and the royal family had their companions accompany them.
For Blue, he had spent most of his days lazing about becoming friendly with other companions to see about getting some sort of leverage for Melody. There were some he had to watch out for, such as griffin who was too large for the castle so he could accompany the general, but most were friendly enough.
Just today, he had talked with a fox about where to get the best food scrapes. He had already eaten his fill for the day when he found the spot he now lay curled up in, to take his nap. Melody had told him she would be too busy to visit him. He was not surprised since she hardly had the time to visit since they arrived. He did not hold it against her, but he did miss her company; at least he was glad they could talk through the mind.
Before he nodded off to sleep he heard her say something going with the prince and that if anything should happen she would call for him, but that had been at least an hour ago.
Blue!
The cry woke him from his sleep with a jolt. At first he was disoriented and looking around to see if perhaps Melody had found the time to come out and visit him, but the voice portrayed urgency. He stood up with a small hop and shook out his fur to clear his head.
Melody? What happened? he asked in a still sluggish voice as he took a step forward in case he had to run to her aid.
Hurry Blue! came the reply.
Blue did not need further prodding, instead he pushed forward with a burst of speed he had only used once before when he first met Melody. She was in danger and he would not just idly sit by, he just hoped he would make it in time.
The guards saw him bounding towards them. It took them a minute to decide if they wanted to let him in, but one growl from Blue made them think twice about stopping him. He continued into the castle, a streak of black fur. The servants saw him, but non tried to stop him, only when he came upon one woman who stood polishing a vase did she step in his way.
"Blue?" she asked gently as he growled at her.
When he realized she knew his name he knew this was a friend of Melody's. Melody, where is she?
It took a moment before the woman could answer since it was a lot harder to be heard by others than just the one the companion had the connection with.
"If the prince didn't catch her, she should be getting his clothes for him," the girl said looking at Blue with a strange look. â"Blue, is she in danger?"
Move out of the way! Blue did not answer her question, but instead darted past her without warning.
"If she's with the prince..." the woman dropped the dust cloth to the floor as she ran the direction Blue had come. "Emma will want to hear of this."
Blue continued down the hall, hunting for Melody's scent to help his search for her. The woman had been no help to him, but perhaps since she seemed to get the impression Melody was endanger she would bring someone else to help look for her. It was a long stretch, but Blue was no certain he would be able to find her in the huge castle by himself.
The fox he had talked to earlier rounded a corner and stopped to stare at Blue.
Blue, what are you doing in here? the fox asked sitting patiently as Blue stopped just short of colliding with him.
