A few months into my sentence and being Jerome's girlfriend, has brought me happiness and glee. I had made friends with Jerome's 'Gang' and even allowed one of them to paint my nails. Today I was sat with Jerome, resting on his shoulder, reading one of the many books I had been gifted by him. Today I was reading "Little Bones" by Sam Blake, which I had only started this morning! I felt a tap on my shoulder and looked at Jerome. "Yes J?" I asked. He looked at me. "I love you, you crazy munchkin!" He grabbed me and pulled me into his embrace. "I love you too! What are you doing this for? You only get like this when you want me to read to you. Do you want me to?" He nodded. Time to shine! I cleared my throat before shouting to the room, which had only 6 people in, which were me, Jerome, Greenwood, Dobkins, Aaron and Sionis. I stood up in my chair, "Gentlemen, if you would like to gather round, I will read to you for a bit!" I exclaimed my arms spread out to the side as I looked around the room. They all instantly gathered round on the picnic style table and listened intently.
"Ahem .. The door to the back bedroom hung open. Pausing at the top of the narrow wooden stairs, Garda Cathy Connolly could just see inside, could see what looked like the entire contents of the wardrobe flung over the polished floor-boards, underwear scattered across the room like litter. The sun, winter weak, played through a window opposite the door, its light falling on something cream, illuminating it bright against the dark denim and jewel colours of the tumbled clothes on the floor. Cathy's stomach turned again and she closed her eyes, willing the sickness to pass. There was a riot of smells up here, beeswax, ghostly layers of stale perfume, something musty. She put her gloved hand to her mouth and the smell of latex, like nails on a blackboard, set her teeth on edge." I paused as I noticed the guards signalling to someone outside of the gates. There was a blonde haired woman with sunglasses to cover her eyes. She pulled them down and winked at me. I knew who this was! Barbra Kean. Jim's Ex. The woman who treated me like her daughter and I treated her like she was my mother. I had lost contact with her as she was dumped by Jim for Lee. Bless her soul.
After reading aloud to Jerome some more, I heard the gate open causing me to look up. Barbra sat down on the table furthest away from us , with a magazine. "Give me a minute Jerome, I need to speak with her. I'll be back." I cupped his face in my hands and kissed his nose. I got up and strolled over to Barbra. We have this thing going on, when I call her mother and she calls me daughter, I don't even know if that went on anymore. "Mother? Is that you?" I asked as I sat opposite her. She put down her magazine and turned to me, looking surprised. "Kira? Baby?" She stood up, as did I, and gave me a cuddle. "Geez, you've grown haven't you! It is wonderful to see you but why are you in here?" She asked and sat down next to me. I could trust this women with everything so I told her everything. "You know I killed my mother right?" She nodded, "Well, I have killed more people since then." She looked at me astonished. "Wow! You have grown up!" She exclaimed. "I killed my father and a few of my 'best' friends since then. I don't know what comes over me. It feels amazing to kill people! Until Jimbo locked me away. What you in for Barbs?" I pondered. "Killing my parents and lashing out on Lee, nearly killing her. Jim also caught me which is a bummer." She informed me.
I sighed, then I noticed a head of ginger sit opposite us. "Hey, I'm Jerome," He introduced himself to Barbra, "I see you know my girlfriend." He looked at me as I blushed, a light hue of pink was over my cheeks. "Kira, you didn't tell me that you had a boyfriend." She acted shocked. "Yeah, I was gonna move on to that." I added. "What'cha in for?" He questioned Barbra. "Killing my parents." She said. "Oh, me too! Well Mom anyhow." Jerome added. "It's liberating right? What a rush it is to kill someone who nags at you 24/7," I added, "Oh no. Sionis is staring at you like you are fried chicken. Barbs, I think he likes you. I also think he wants to be your friend." Barbs looked at me then Jerome, then Sionis. "Hmm, let me think. No. I have you." She whined. "Look, you need to have friends Barbra, like I have Jerome and his gang. The guards they don't care about us or anyone for that matter. They figure bad things happen to bad people. And they do happen all the time." I informed her. She stood up and signalled for Aaron to go over to her.
"Hi, my names Barbra, would you be my friend?" She pleaded him. "Yes." He simply replied. I looked over to Jerome whilst they were talking and he looked at me in the eyes. "You're friend is quite charismatic isn't she?" He added. I raised my eyebrows, "Don't get any ideas Ginger. You're stuck with me." I joked. He smiled his sinister smile at me. "I know toots. I know." I moved around the table to sit next to him and that's when Barbs returned. "Now I have a friend. But your friend is a gorilla," Jerome stated and I giggled a bit, "My friend runs the joint. And he can get you things that other people can't get you. I get my muffin here books from him." I smiled at him and rested my head on his shoulder. "Is it possible for him to get me a phone?" She asked Jerome. He nodded and she smiled like she was planning something evil.
After we had been let back to our cells, I had noticed that there was something on the small table in the corner of my room by the sink. I went over and noticed there was a box covered in purple with a neon green bow, with a tag on it. I turned over the tag and read it. 'Hey munchkin, I made this for you and I thought that you would love it. Keep it in your cell safe away because it isn't really allowed in here! See you soon, Jerome x'. I undid the green bow and opened the box. My face lit up. Inside the box was a dagger, which had a purple handle with 'Jester' embellished in silver on one of the sides and the blade was black that faded into a red. Aww, he's such a sweetie. I can't wait to see him tomorrow! I placed the dagger behind a loose brick and sat on my windowsill looking out on to the skyscrapers of Gotham. It was getting dark but I could manage to see the sunset from where I was. It was mighty beautiful. I decided to reach for one of the thousands of books Jerome had gifted me as I had finished the one I was reading this morning. I picked out one of the Peter James' books - 'Dead simple' - My favourite. I started reading it and not long after getting through the first 2 chapters, I was falling asleep. I put my book down and got onto the bed. I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow and I had a gut feeling that tomorrow, Gotham will crumble.
