After my father and sister finished eating my sister and I sat and listened as my fathers friend Wayland and him chatted about the past. One of the many things they reminesced about was the Christmas party we went to with our father when we were just little tykes. Finally after 45 minutes my father was ready to go. I let my father drive home because my leg was starting to bother me again. When we arrived home I took the keys and went straight to my room to change into something more comfortable as the leggings were starting to bother me.
Just as I had laid down in my bed Bella walked in.
"Dad said to make sure you are decent because we will have company soon." Before she left the room she made a joke, telling me not to get lost.
I looked down at my outfit and laughed. One couldn't get more decent then old baggy sweats and a tshirt. I didn't care how I looked while I was in my own home. If anyone didn't like what I was wearing they could just close their eyes or look away.
Getting to my feet I waslked over to my ipod docking station and plugged it in. Most people would keep it plugged in all the time but I was a bit of a tree hugger, more formally speaking I was all about saving electricity and water, the whole nine yards.
Sitting beside my docking station was my ipod, it looked like someone had attempted to clean off the blood that my sister said was on it but missed a few spots. I made a mental note to get some more sanatizing wipes when I made a store run. Speaking of shopping I needed to get a job, and fast, if I wanted to be able to afford to feed my shopping appetite.
Putting my ipod on the docking station I grabbed the remote and went back to my bed. I surfed through the different songs until I landed on the song I was looking for, Storytime by Nightwish. This was one of my many favorite bands. I turned the volume all the way up and closed my eyes as I began singing along.
Not even thirty seconds into the song my sister came and pounded on the door. I heard her yell for me to turn it down which I ignored. After another ten seconds she finally came into my room and pulled the plug from the electrical socket.
"Dad said to turn your music down or turn it off." She said before she walked back out, closing the door behind me.
I rose to my feet and grabbed my ipod and ear phones before I headed out onto the balcony.
"Dad said to turn your music down or turn it off." I mumbled to myself in a poor expression of my sister.
As I turned to look out over the backyard I saw a group of bronze skinned males sitting around the firepit. They were joined by my father and a man in a wheelchair who I knew to be Billy Black. Suddenly long arms wrapped themselves around me and I let out a shriek before turning around.
"Jacob!" I squeeked, aiming a smack at his arm. My eyes widened for a fraction of a second as I gazed at him. "Your hair." I laughed. "It's longer then mine."
Jake crossed his arms as he leaned against the railing of the porch.
"Yeah your sister said the same thing." He chuckled. "My bro keeps on trying to cut it but I won't let him."
"Jackson can be something else sometimes." I said as I headed downstairs to the gathering by the firepit.
Jackson was Jacobs twin brother. Jackson and Jacob weren't the first pair of twins to be born in the Black family. Before them was Rachel and Rebecca. They were in college though, or atleast Rachel was, Rebecca was married to a Samoan man she met during a trip to Hawaii she took. Last time I heard from her she was expecting their first child.
As I came over to stand beside my father I was acknowledged by none other then Jackson.
"I'm glad your back." He began. "All of us were worried that we had lost you forever."
"It's going to take alot more then woods and mountain lions to kill me." I joked.
Even as I joked a chill ran through my spine as I remembered the woods, the creatures, the lion. I closed my eyes for a moment to try and shake the thoughts.
"Sophers." My dad called.
I opened my eyes quickly and looked in the direction of his voice. He held out his arm towards me and I walked over.
"Yes dad?" I replied.
"Billy wants to see your leg." He said to me.
I looked at Billy who was eyeing my right leg curiously. Why did he want to see my leg? Showing my ugly scar was the last thing I wanted to do, especially with the guys around.
"Do I have to dad?" I whined.
"We-" Billy said, gesturing to the other bronze skinned boys around the fire. "-Are responsible for making sure the lion that attacked you is taken down." He said.
My father pulled me to the chair beside him and I willingly lifted up the pant leg of my sweats before I pulled aside my bandage. Billy, and the others leaned in for a good look.
"No breach in the pact." He mumbled.
I fixed my bandage again before I sat up straight. What did Billy mean by no breach in the pact? Him and my father fell into a conversation about the Cullens finding me and patching me up. Then Billy began asking me alot of questions about the incident. I mentioned the quick blur passing me several times and then Billy started acting a bit strange. It didn't seem to bother my father but it weirded me out.
"I'm going to go inside, I'm getting a bit tired." I lied before rising to my feet.
Once I was inside I laid back down in my bed and pondered on the events that had just unfolded. Why was Billy so interested in my wound and why did he act the way he did when I mentioned the blurrs passing me. Something was up and I knew it. Something having to do with the Cullens and the Blacks as Billy seemed to cringe whenever my father mentioned how good they are.
I laid, waiting for the crowd to leave but it just seemed like the bon fire got wilder and wilder. After a half an hour of laughing and cheering I was beyond annoyed. It was impossible to try and think when there was a lot of ruckus going on around you.
Then the door leading to my wrap around porch opened and in walked Jackson. I sat up in my bed, sitting indian style and pushed my hair behind my shoulder. Maybe Jackson would know, afterall Billy is his father.
Jackson closed the door before he grinned at me.
"It's getting pretty wild out there, why don't you join us?" He asked me as he pulled the chair from my desk and sat down. "They were just about to start charades."
"Let me guess, Bella's idea of fun?" I asked
Bella liked playing charades and every time we would have people over somehow we always ended up playing it. Then again for someone like my sister who hardly gets any recognition because of how ordinary she was, they would definitely try and play a game that they always ended up winning.
Jackson nodded his head. The two of us stared before we broke into a bit of laughter. After it had died down and was silent I thought it would be a good time to strike a new conversation.
"So your dad must not like the Cullens." I said plainly.
Jackson looked at me before he went to open his mouth.
"It's not that he doesn't like them, there is more to it then that. You see the Cullens-" Jackson was interrupted as Jacob came running through the door and annoucing that it was time to go. "I guess we will continue another time." He said before he rose to his feet and left with his brother.
I learned so far that the situation involving the Cullens and the Blacks was more then meets the eyes. He was about to tell me something about the Cullens. The final sentence kept replaying in my mind.
You see the Cullens- What about the Cullens? The Cullens were trouble makers? The Cullens broke something or took something that belonged to the Blacks? What about the Cullens? I wondered how long it would take before I would ever find out. This conversation was a bit on the touchy side so I wasn't sure if Jackson would willingly restart the conversation and I wasn't going to be too pushy and ask him.
