The next week at work went by fairly smoothly. Tom and I were talking again, which was awesome. I missed having my best friend to talk to.
But that's the thing. I didn't want him to just be my best friend, I wanted more. I always got so flustered while talking to him, and I think he noticed. While I was wiping some makeup off Tom's face after they were done filming for the day, he gently took my hand and looked me in the eyes. My whole body went stiff, and my cheeks became rosy.
"Can I stop by your apartment later?"
"Oh, um- yeah, sure. Is everything okay?" I stuttered, my eyes a bit wider.
He nodded, quickly glancing around before responding. "Yeah, everything's okay. I just need to talk to you about something."
"Oh, alright. See you after work then," I replied, taking a deep breath and wiping off the last bit of makeup.
He gave me a small smile and stood up, walking past me towards Haz.
Yes, Tom has two assistants. I tease him about it all the time, saying things like "You're so high maintenance," or "Are you so incapable of doing things yourself you need two assistants?" And of course we always laugh about it.
He's great.<Tom's POV>
I jogged up to Harrison after probably leaving Emma confused.
"Hey, mate. Did you tell her?"
"No, I think I'm gonna tell her tonight," I responded, glancing over at Emma before quickly turning back to Haz. "I don't know about this."
"It's obvious she likes you, just tell her how you feel n' all that cheesy shit."
I gave a small chuckle, before nodding in response.
He was right. I was gonna go over to Emma's later tonight and ask her out, I just had to muster up the courage to do so.<Emma's POV>
I gave a small sigh, picking up my bag and carrying it over to a chair the set crew gave me.
It was an old chair, but it worked. As filming for the day came to an end, I packed my things up and headed out, waving to Tom on the way out. He smiled sweetly in return, and my heart skipped a beat. A small smile stayed on my lips throughout the drive back, his smile replaying in my mind.
I set my things down in my empty apartment, my heart heavy after seeing there's no one to come back to. Yet another quiet sigh escaped my lips as I headed towards the kitchen, opening the fridge and scanning the inside for something to eat. I spotted an apple and shrugged, lazily taking it out and shutting the door as I turned and walked away. I plopped down on the couch and turned on the TV in attempt to fill the uncomfortable silence that settled throughout the apartment.
It was about half an hour after I'd fallen asleep while watching some random show that I was woken up by a knock."Hey, Emma? You in there?"
"Yeah- Yeah! Coming, sorry."
I lazily dragged myself off the couch, stretching and yawning as I walked to the door only half awake.
I opened it slowly to see Tom standing with his hands shoved in his pockets, smiling at me kindly. I returned the smile, moving to the side so he could come in.
He thanked me and came in, looking around the quiet apartment."Everything alright?"
I nodded, shutting the door and yawning again.
"Yeah, why?"
He shrugged, turning back to me.
"You're usually not asleep at this time. Sorry for waking you," He replied, looking a bit guilty.
I gave a reassuring smile and shrugged. "It's alright. So, what did you wanna talk to me about?"
He got a few steps closer. "Well, I need to tell you something."
"Oh- okay?" I almost stuttered, butterflies in my stomach.
He took a few steps closer again, close enough I'm sure he could hear my heart pounding. "Darling, listen.."
He placed his right hand on my cheek, and I leaned into his hand, my eyes closing softly for a moment before they shot open.He slid his left arm around my waist, and pulled me closer to him, as his lips met mine.
I hesitated in shock, my heart beating rapidly. I slowly traced my hand up his chest and my fingers got tangled in his hair as I hit the wall behind me, and the kiss got more passionate."Tom..." I whispered, breaking the kiss.
He took a step back and lovingly placed a strand of hair behind my ear, gazing into my eyes.
"I-I can't.. It's- it's too soon," I stuttered, my voice cracking. I failed to meet his eyes as he took a few steps back, nodding. His hand slowly left my waist and my heart suddenly felt a million pounds heavier.
"It's alright, love," He replied with a sad smile, his sorrowful voice contradicting his words.
"I'm sorry.." I mumbled, pulling him into a hug and burying my face in his chest.
"Hey, it's alright, Em. Okay? I understand, I should be apologizing. I mean it's only been a week since you and Steven broke up," He muttered, looking down at me with a pained smile crossing his lips.
I bit my lip in attempt to help fight back the tears that began pooling up in my eyes, though it didn't work.
As I took a step back and looked up at him, I returned the pained smile.
It took everything in me not to kiss him, and just forget that I said anything.
I wanted to be with him.
I needed to be with him.
But.."I'm scared.." I mumbled, almost inaudibly.
"Of what, Em?" He spoke softly, clearing his throat every now and then.
I'm sure he was holding back tears too, which shattered my heart more."Of being hurt again."
