•<Tom's POV>
"Hey darling, I made breakfast for you," I said, coming up behind Emma and wrapping my arms around her waist with my head on her shoulder lovingly.
Suddenly, we were both sitting down at a table and eating.
"Tom?"
"Yes love?"
"Why did you leave me all alone?"My eyes shot open, my heart racing as the dream played over in my mind repeatedly. I stared up at the white ceiling for awhile, before looking around the room as I sat up with a sigh.
'God, that felt so real.'
Streaks of morning sunlight leaked into the room and brightened it.
I got out of bed, unable to get the dream out of my thoughts.
"Tom?"
I jumped a bit, surprised at the sudden voice. I turned around to see Anna, laying in my bed. She sat herself up and stretched, looking at me a bit worried.
"You alright?" She asked, tilting her head slightly.
I nodded in response and gave her a small smile.
"Yeah, I'm alright. Just a dream is all."
"If you say so," She replied, hopping out of bed.
I slipped on a grey shirt and a pair of jeans and headed out of the room.
My heart hurt. It felt heavy. Ever since Emma rejected me, she's been acting strange.
But truth is, so had I.
I fucked up our friendship, I should've known better. But now I can't have her.
'Good lord, Tom. You have a girlfriend now.'
"I'm going to get coffee for us," I called out to Anna, who was still in the bedroom getting ready.
"Okay!" She called back.
I knew it was risky, but I headed off to Local Hero yet again.
Some part of me wished to see Emma there, another part of me wished she wasn't there. But I had to make things right with her.
And get coffee.<Emma's POV>
Same morning as usual. A hangover and empty beer bottles, struggling to get out of bed, and dreading work.
So, I figured I could get up early, get some coffee and sketch the street outside of the small shop. Take my mind off things.
So that's what I did. I got my ass out of bed, opened the curtains, and tried my best to be optimistic.
"If we were meant to be, we would have been by now I'm sure," I mumbled to myself. "So no use getting sad over something I did for a reason."
Truth is, I couldn't remember what the reason was.
I got dressed and did my hair, as well as put on some makeup. I headed out with my purse and backpack full of my art things, such as colored pencils, two sketchbooks, and pencils.
As I walked in to the lovely little shop, the pleasant smell of coffee and tea drifted through the air and hit me as I walked in.
As I turned to go towards my usual spot, I stopped dead in my tracks at the sight of someone sitting there.
No, not just someone.
Tom.
I took a step back, but accidentally kicked a chair. His attention immediately shot towards me and he looked up at me, his face both lighting up and falling at the same time, which I wasn't entirely sure was possible.
I gave him a small smile and he waved me over, returning the smile. I awkwardly sat across from him, looking down at my hands until he spoke up.
"Hey, Em," He said softly.
"Hey."
"How have you been?"
I looked up at him, my mouth suddenly becoming dry as I spoke.
"Fine. What- what about you?" I asked quietly, not wanting to tell him the truth.
"I've been alright, thanks."
I nodded.
There were a few moments after that of uncomfortable silence.<Tom's POV>
'Her eyes. They look so.. Empty. Dull. Like she isn't really here. I can't stand seeing her like this.'
I decided to man up and just get this over with, maybe make her feel better.
"Emma, I miss you."
That caught her attention. Her head perked up, a slightly confused expression spreading across her face.
"I miss our friendship. It's my fault that we don't have one anymore, and I'm- I'm sorry, Em. I'm really sorry."
She shook her head, biting her bottom lip harshly.
"It's okay. I miss you too," She responded, a small smile on her lips. "Friends?"
I nodded, a smile growing on my lips as well.
"Friends."<Emma's POV>
And just like that, there were no more nights where I drank my emotions away, there was no more dreading work.
I'm not gonna lie, it still hurt to see him with Anna. But it was okay. She made him happy. And if we were meant to just be friends, then so be it. At least I have him back in my life.
Although, things began getting complicated when Haz came up to me one day at work, as Tom was shooting some scenes outside and we were watching.
"Hey Emma! There you are," He called out, jogging up to me.
I turned around and faced him with a kind smile.
"Hey, Haz. What's up?"
"Uh- well.. Can I ask you something?"
I nodded, slightly confused.
"Would you maybe- uh, wanna catch a movie sometime?"
My eyes went wide in surprise, though I nodded with a smile after.
"Yes! I mean- okay, cool. I'll text you when, yeah?"
A small giggle escaped my lips as I replied.
"Yeah, of course. See you then, Haz."Things were about to get complicated, and somewhere in my mind I knew that.
But I never expected things to get as bad as they did.
