"Come on, it won't be that bad. I promise."
Tom and I ended up cooking breakfast, though neither of us knew how to cook.
"You don't know that."
"Okay, but I know Haz. It's not like he'll attack you. I mean, he's your best friend, right?"
Tom nodded with a short sigh, before both of our attention was turned to Haz as he came out of the bedroom.
"Good morning, sunshine," Tom joked, nudging his arm as he walked past.
Haz rolled his eyes and Tom chuckled, returning back to mix the pancake batter.
The room smelled of pancakes, eggs, and bacon. The scent drifted through the air and settled throughout the apartment, and it made me smile a bit to myself.
It was calming.
After we'd all sat down and eaten, I cleared my throat and nudged Tom's arm under the table.
He nodded towards me and Harrison looked up, confused.
"What's going on?"
"So..um.. this morning Emma and I got to talking, and-"
"You're together? Yeah, I know. Took you two long enough. I heard you this morning. Congrats," He cut Tom off, giving him a warm smile.
Tom and I exchanged both a relieved look and a joyful smile.
"Did you think I would be mad?"
I shook my head. "No, of course we didn't. You're too great of a person. We just thought it was a bit soon, you know?"
"I get that. But really, I am happy for you two. You deserve each other."<Tom's POV>
As Emma was washing the dishes because she wouldn't let neither me or Haz help, saying she wanted to do something nice for us, Haz pulled me aside.
"Hey, listen. I really am happy for you. You two should have been together ages ago, you really are soul mates," He said kindly.
"Thanks, man. That means a lot, and yeah I gotta agree with you on that," I replied with a small chuckle.
"Here's the thing though; you have her. Please, Tom, whatever you do, don't let her go. For either of your sakes. You're both just so... Broken without each other. I think you see that too."
I nodded.
He was right. She was all that was missing from my life, and more. Even back when we were just coffee buddies, she was a big part of my life. I could never figure out why, but now I understood.
The way she looked at me.
The way she spoke with interest as if everything had a hidden beauty in it.
The way she makes me feel as if I'm free, how she takes my stress away even if she just walks in the room.
The way her eyes light up as she talks about the things she loves.
How her voice gets higher and she jumps around when she's excited about something.
Her smile. God, that beautiful, beautiful smile that could light up the whole fucking universe.
How even when she was sad, she tried her best to make others happy.
It didn't matter how much she was hurting or how much she went through, she put others' happiness before her own.
How she didn't give a shit about anything, yet cared about everything.
Her.
There were so, so many reasons to love her.
Everything about her was perfect.
She is perfection, and I never thought I'd think anything was perfect.
Emma was definitely something else. No amount of compliments could ever do her justice.
"Trust me, Haz. I'm not letting her go anytime soon. I've waited too damn long for this."
He chuckled softly and nodded, patting me on the back.
"Good."<Emma's POV>
Lily shuffled through the door, shaking her head as she shut it exhaustedly behind her.
"This sucks, I'm so out of shape I can't run."
I laughed as I turned the sink faucet off and closed the dishwasher, drying my hands with a small towel.
"Fatass."
She smacked my arm as she walked past and headed for the bathroom, causing me to laugh heartily.
I peered over at Tom to see him staring at me, though as soon as we got eye contact, he cleared his throat and returned to talking to Harrison.
After they were done talking, Tom came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist, resting his chin lightly on my shoulder. I tensed up and froze, my heart racing as unwanted memories flooded back into my mind.
"Em? Are you okay?" Tom's voice was drowned out by the sound of my heart beating rapidly.
"Emma? Darling, are you alright?" He slowly turned me around, brushing a strand of hair out of my face and tucking it behind my ear. He pulled me closer to him, and I felt safer.
"Sorry," I mumbled into his chest. "Just.. Just bad memories, is all. Sorry."
"No need to apologize. It's okay. But listen, I'm here, okay? Nothing's going to happen to you."
His voice was soothing and slowed down both my thoughts and my racing heart. We stood there for a few minutes, just holding each other closely. I didn't want to let go.
I felt so incredibly safe in his arms. I listened to his heartbeat and felt as his chest slowly rose and fell with each breath he took.
I was okay."So. Spill, Emma."
"What?"
Lily had called me into her bedroom after getting out of the shower and getting dressed, though she didn't tell me why.
"Oh come on. What happened last night?"
"Nothing happened last night."
"Oh. Really? That's a disappointment."
I cleared my throat and looked down at my feet.
"Something may have happened this morning, though.." I mumbled.
"What? Bitch you'd better tell me everything."
"So this morning we got to talking and.. Um.. Well long story short we kissed and now we're dating. Okay well I gotta blast I'll talk to you la-"
"Oh hell no, you're not going anywhere," She cut me off, grabbing my arm and sitting me down on her bed.
"So you and Tom are dating?"
"Maybe."
"Damn, took you two long enough."
"That's what Harrison said."
"Well, he isn't wrong," She replied, a smile stuck on her lips.
I smiled softly before peering down at my hands.
"What's wrong?"
"Well, this morning while you were in the shower, Tom came up behind me and put his arms around my waist and then put his chin on my shoulder. You know, like a normal boyfriend. Except, it... It reminded me of.. Yeah. You know who. And so I just froze, and didn't move. Something about what Tom did triggered something inside me, and I just kept on thinking of all those times where Steven was abusive. I couldn't move, until Tom turned me around and held me close. It felt like I couldn't breathe until he put his arms around me, and it was like everything just went away."
"Wow."
"Yeah."
Lily rested her hand on mine, and gave me a hopeful smile.
"You know what that means, don't you?"
"No, what?"
"Em, you've told me about how bad your panic attacks get. How no one has ever been able to calm you down, no matter who it is. Don't you see that Tom just calmed you down without even trying? All he did was hold you in his arms and you were alright again. Emma, you're literally perfect for each other. It's absolutely amazing."
I smiled happily, knowing she was right.
God, everything about him just makes me so happy.
He is the definition of perfect, and I know a ton of people would agree with me on that.
There's too many reasons to love him. Way, way too many. Understatement of the year.
Wow.
'I love him.'
A huge smile suddenly formed on my lips as I stood up, opening the door and running out of the room.
"Emma?" Lily called out, but I didn't listen.
"Tom?" I asked, running up to him.
"Yeah?"
I put one hand on his cheek and the other on his chest as I pulled him into a passionate kiss.
He kissed back, and after a minute or so I broke the kiss and looked him in the eyes.
"This may be too soon, but I don't care. I don't care about anything but you right now. I've been waiting too damn long to say this," I said quickly, taking a deep breath before speaking up again. "Tom, I..I love you."
He looked shocked before his expression changed into a softer one."Emma.. I love you too."
