"Ava! Wake up!" Clara's voice echoed in my half asleep mind. She ran to me and thrusted my blanket off of me. I pulled my pillow over my head to cover the one warm spot on my body.
"Nghhh...". She laughed.
"Get up weirdo! We gotta go look for more avengers!" I pulled my pillow off my head.
"Nooooo. I want to stay in bed." She laughed again and pulled my arm attempting to pull me up. I sat up with one eye half closed and my hair in a rats nest. Groggy, I held on to everything to limp myself to the bathroom. It's kind of hard to walk when both your legs aren't working. I eventually made it and sat on the chair we had previously put in there. I put on my makeup, and did my hair, and got dressed. I hobbled out of the bathroom to see Clara completely ready, standing behind my wheelchair. She smiled brightly.
"Did you take your medication?" She asked as I sat down in my wheelchair.
"Ugh. No. Let me-". Before I got up, she shoved an orange pill bottle in my face.
"No problem." I rolled my eyes and grabbed the bottle. Ever since she started living with me, she would do absolutely everything for me. I took the medication and handed her back the bottle. She grabbed it and put it in her bag and wheeled me through the door and out into the hallway. "Ready to meet more famous people?"
"Clara!" She laughed. She knew that I get really shy when people notice me for something "huge" that I did. For instance, I fell out of a helicopter and everyone (including most of the avengers) saw it. Now everyone recognizes me for it. Mostly because of my legs, it's hard to miss a girl with two huge blue casts in a wheelchair. But in better news, I've played the piano more often! And no, agent rogers has not been listening, I'm pretty sure he tries his hardest to avoid that place. Treesa and I have become better friends, and she's introduced me to a variety of frappuccinos. And there's one last piece of bad news...
"Tony's been avoiding me...". I told Clara and Treesa.
"What'd Ya mean?" Treesa asked.
"I mean, that he's been avoiding me. Every time I try to wave to him he just looks away from me. I don't know what's going on! Did I make him mad or something?" Treesa shrugged.
"Well what happened the last time you saw him?" Clara asked. I thought for a moment.
"You were there... and...". That's when I saw Phil turn a corner. "Phil!" He whipped to look at me. "What did you say to Tony?" I asked harshly. He looked confused.
"What?" He asked. I moved myself in the wheelchair towards him.
"You told him something! The last time I saw him, he looked happy to see me! But now, he just ignores me! What's. Going. On." By this time, I was right up to his chest, poking at it, hoping to get an answer. He sighed and looked down at me. He looked up towards Clara and Treesa and sighed again.
"Follow me." I was slightly shocked by his answer, but I turned to Clara and bobbed my head towards his direction. Clara stood up but I think Treesa knew not to come with. We wheeled into a room with some chairs and a table. He sat down in a single chair on the other side of the table that had 2 chairs. Clara shoved one aside and parked me next to her, across the table from Phil. We both sat awkwardly, not knowing at all what was going to happen.
"Ava." He said sternly. "I've been thinking about this and I think this is the right time to tell you, for your own protection." A million thoughts were racing through my mind. My protection? What does he know that I don't? Is he talking about me? I froze. Those weren't my thoughts. Someone, I don't know how, but someone put those thoughts in my head. I knew for certain that those weren't mine.
"Ava?" He asked. I made eye contact. "Are you alright?" I stared at him and hesitated for a while.
"What?" I said loudly. He Ignored what I had just said and continued.
"Ava there's something about you that I need to warn you about." Now Clara and I we're really confused. He's definitely talking about me. I gasped and flinched. He stared at me.
"What did you hear?" He asked. I blinked.
"What?" He spoke slightly louder.
"What did you hear." I was a little frightened. And I tried to answer quickly.
"Um... You're talking about someone..." I said, unsure of my words. His eyes got slightly bigger. He leaned back in his chair.
"Ava, Do you know what the black death is?" He asked. Now we we're REALLY confused.
"Black death?" Clara asked. "Isn't that just a legend?" Phil sighed.
"Not anymore..." He looked hesitant but I knew he really wanted to say something. "Ava, I'm not gonna sugar coat it... You have it." I heard Clara gasp, but I was still confused.
"What's black death?" I suddenly heard a yell. Me! I jumped up out of fear and stood standing, breathing hard. "Phil, someone is talking to me in my mind." He nodded.
"I know. That's her."
"It's a her?" Clara yelled.
"What the heck is happening?! Can someone please explain things to me?!" I yelled even louder. Calmly, Phil spoke.
"Black death is a spirit that possesses a host, like a poltergeist."
"Do you mean there's a ghost inside of me?!" I'm not a ghost! I ignored it, and listened to Phil.
"No. It's not a ghost. It's a form. A spirit. Not a ghost, it can take control of the host if you saw 'Black death full body'. Than it will appear on the outside, while you stay on the inside. You'll be in her mind while she uses your body, and vice versa."
"What can it do?" I asked.
"A lot. It has venom inside of it that could kill anything instantly. The only way to heal yourself is getting the venom and turning it into an antivenom. Its claws can cut through anything like soft butter, and than light it on fire." I was a little overwhelmed, so I spoke without thinking.
"So If I just say Black death full body-" I saw Phil's hand fly up as he mouthed the words No over and over again. And that's when I switched into darkness, and nothing else happened. Before I could panic, I switched back to seeing Phil's face, Clara and Phil we're both back up against the walls, Clara mostly, and there eyes we're the size of baseballs. "What happened?" I asked. Clara stuttered.
"Y- you- you turned into her..."
"I did what?" I asked. She slowly stood up as Phil walked to his chair.
"You turned into Black Death." I almost passed out but Clara grabbed me to keep me stable so I wouldn't faint. I didn't have much of a question, but I was really confused.
"How?" I asked. He straightened his jacket collar.
"You said the trigger words. That's what turns you into 'it'. Those words..." I was honestly distraught by what had just happened.
"But I was awake." He looked confused. "I mean, I could tell that I had turned, I think... I'm still confused.... but how did I change back?"
"She said your full name, your first name that is." Now I was really confused.
"How does that work?" I asked.
"We don't know. All we can do now, is avoid saying...". He looked at me. "Those words..." I didn't smile. He opened the door and gestured us to leave, which we did immediately. He stood behind us and walked us back to my dorm, just so he would make sure that I wouldn't switch. After getting settled in my dorm, Clara told me that she had to go back to work so I should probably take it easy. I nodded, and watched her leave. After about 20 minutes of nothing, I got a text from Clara. She told me that Phil said I could turn a certain body part into Black Death's. She said the trigger words are; Black death hands, if I say that, my hand and half of my arm will turn into this black spikey thing. So I tried it. And let me tell you I have never been more freaked out in my entire life. My entire hand turned black! It was twice the size of mine and it had claws! CLAWS!  She then quickly sent me a text following the previous one saying; to turn it back just say 'Black death reverse' and it'll change back. Than another text. And Phil said not to touch anything, he doesn't want me to burn the ship down. So I turned it back pretty fast. I texted her back saying; What else can I turn? She responded; Hands, Face, Tail, Wings, And full body which you probs shouldn't do. I laughed and stared at what she had wrote. Tail? Wings? So out of curiosity I called out; "Black death wings!" I felt nothing, I don't really know what I expected, except that I might feel something. So I wheeled into the bathroom and sat in front of the mirror. With wings on my back. So I screamed. I tried not to, but I couldn't really stop myself. It wasn't a very long scream, but it wasn't a yelp either... I calmed myself down, and touched them, they were absolutely beautiful, I touched the delicate feathers on the bridge and felt how soft and silky they we're. DId I mention that my wings are pitch black? Then came a thought, Can I fly? Which was immediately interrupted by a huge banging at the door. Someone was slamming their fist against the door, I had no idea who, and I had no idea why until I remembered how loud my scream can be and that the walls aren't sound proof. So I wheeled out of the bathroom and looked through our little peep hole, yes we have a peep hole, and saw Dr. Banner... I covered my mouth with my hand and died a little inside.
"Hello? Are you alright in there?" I Didn't want to speak. But I knew if I didn't, he would just try to open the door himself, finding me in here, completely fine. So I called back,
"Yea! I'm fine! Sorry if I scared you!." It was silent for a second.
"Hello?" He called. That's when I remembered that our door was sound proof. Of all the things to make sound proof you choose the door?! So I knew that to make him go away I would have to open the door and speak to him. I dreaded the thought, and an immediate nervousness filled my gut. So I unlocked the door and opened it to see dr. banner, in a lab coat, standing, looking straight at my wings that I had completely forgot about. So I stared at him wondering what he was doing, until I remembered... I almost swore, but I didn't, I just stood there waiting for a reaction from him. He didn't really have a reaction. He just stood there, with this look on his face. He pointed.
"What is that?" I swallowed.
"My... wings..." I answered sort of quietly. He didn't do anything. Then he asked,
"How?" Now I was really nervous. I had no idea what to say. Should I tell him everything? Should I lie? Or maybe slam the door in his face? I won't lie, I was seriously considering the 3rd option. Don't worry, I didn't, I did something worse. I stood there, and stared at him. And he stared at me, until I slowly closed the door. Before I could shut it, he put his hand in the way, which I prayed he wouldn't do, and said,
"Wait!" So I opened the door to look at him. He sighed as if he was searching for something to say. "Do you need to talk about it?" I was a little surprised because at first I thought, What would he know? Than I remembered... Right...
"Um... Sure..." He smiled awkwardly and stepped in. I wheeled to my bed while we walked behind me and sat next to me on my bed.
"So... is this uh, Black Death?" I nodded. "When did you figure that out?" I laughed sarcastically.
"Today..." He laughed to.
"Really?" I nodded. He smiled. He has a pretty good smile. He sighed and looked at my wings. He pointed to them. "Is this the only thing you can do?" I shook my head. I yelled out the switch for my hands and my hands turned black and sharp. He raised his eyebrows. "Wow. That's pretty dangerous." I laughed. "Have you turned all the way?" I nodded. "Today?" I nodded again. He sighed. "How did it feel?" I thought about that. How did it feel? I don't really remember...
"I don't know... it happened to fast for me to realize what had happened." He nodded.
"I know that feeling.... I uh, never really know what it feels like.... it's kind of like... you lose control of your own body." I nodded.
"I was only turned once but... I totally get that." He and I laughed. I had totally forgotten that there was one more person on this planet who knew exactly how I felt.
"Does it have a name?" For a moment I had completely forgotten about her name.
"Rosaline...".
"Yeah... it's good to give it a name... people can tell the difference." I laughed.
"Is that how you survived?" He pointed at my legs.
"What do you mean?" I asked. He scoffed.
"Well from a height like that, there should've been no way for you to survive that. You should've died from the fall." That kind of struck me as obvious. Of course I should've died! There is no way I should be here right now.
"Probably." I said shrugging. "Has... He ever saved your life?" I asked. I began to regret what I had just said.
"Kind of. I mean, I wouldn't ever call it 'saving' but... sure." I knew what he meant. But I didn't dare talk about it. Our sudden peace was interrupted by a loud knock on the door.
"Ava? Will come out I need to talk to you." It was Phil... again. I quietly turned my hands and wings back. I looked at Bruce, and than back at the door. He got the message and stood up and opened the door. Phil walked in and almost spoke, but stopped himself when he saw Bruce.
"What are you doing in here?" Phil asked.
"We we're just talking." I said. Phil looked at me, and than back at Bruce, and than back at me.
"Did you tell him?"
"I... Uh... but Phil he has the same thing as me!"
"What? Ava are you crazy? We can't just tell people about this! We need to keep this a secret."
"I can keep a secret Phil." Bruce said. "You can trust me. I won't say anything. I promise." Bruce smiled at me and I smiled back. Phil sighed and gestured us to leave. I wheeled out and bruce shut the door behind us. He waved as he left and, I waved back. Smiling.
