I see a vampire running toward me, and it sure as hell looked like he was ready to kill. I grab the seraph blade from the shadowhunter's hand, turn, and cut the vampire's head clean off.
I suppose that everyone heard the commotion, because I see Isabelle, Jace, Alec, and Clary run outside.
"Arabella, look at the seraph blade." Alec says wearily.
"You shouldn't be able to hold that." Izzy states.
"And it's glowing red." Clary adds.
"We've got to get you inside," Jace orders, "and you're coming to." The last part was directed toward the shadowhunter I don't know.
We all go into the basement without anyone noticing.
We're all silent for a few moments.
"First of all, who are you?" Alec asks the mysterious shadowhunter.
The brown haired, blue eyed boy answers with a stutter.
"I-I'm James."
"When did you get here?" Jace asks.
"Two days ago, I think."
"Why wasn't I alerted that we had a transfer?" Alec questions.
James shrugs, causing Alec to roll his eyes.
"I'm calling Magnus." Alec informs us.
Magnus portals here about ten seconds later.
"What's going on?" He asks.
"Can you make this kid forget everything from the past half hour?" I ask.
He does it, no questions asked, and sends James back upstairs.
"Now, fill me in on why I had to do that." Magnus demands.
Alec tells him everything.
"The blade was glowing red?" He questions.
"Yeah. None of us have ever seen that."
"I have." Magnus nearly whispers.
"What is it?" I ask.
"I haven't seen this in nearly 200 years." He states.
"Who was it? What happened to them?" I ask.
"His name was Damon, I'd only known him for a brief time. He was a shashadowhunter, until he wasn't," he pauses for a moment, "he's dead now."
"How did he die?" Izzy asks.
"His power was too great for him, it backfired."
"What was his power?" I wonder.
"We shouldn't talk about this here."
Everyone walks through the portal he had made, and we end up at a random warehouse.
"I'm going to try to hurt you. You have to block it." Magnus states.
I look at him with wide eyes, "you're going to hit me with some warlock magic? How is that fair to me? I'll die!"
"Are you sure this is a good idea, Magnus?" Alec questions.
Magnus shrugs. He tells everyone to back up, and they do.
He throws a ton of fire at me all at once.
I put my hand out and close my eyes tight, waiting for the impact, but it doesn't come.
I slowly open my eyes to see the same type of fire coming from my hand.
"How am I doing that?" I shout.
"I don't know, but figure out how to stop it. You're more powerful than me, I can't hold it much longer!" He yells back.
I close my hand and it goes away.
"Magnus, explain to me how the hell I did that. Now." I demand.
"Don't get angry, you might not be able to control yourself."
"Then tell me how I did that!"
"I don't know! Damon died before we could figure it out." He admits.
"Then I'll do the same. I can't risk hurting you guys."
I run away, a trail of fire behind me.
I run and run until I find the tallest building I can. I walk in the take the elevator to the top floor. From there, I get to the roof.
I walk calmly to the edge and just stand there for a moment. If this is what I have to do to ensure that I won't hurt anyone, then it's what I'll do.
I let myself fall forward.
I slam against the ground, but I don't feel any pain. I'm not dead. I'm not even injured, not one scratch on my body.
I suddenly hear a voice, "are you Arabella Ravenhart?"
"Depends, who's asking?"
"Damon Salvatore. I need you to come with me."
"And why is that?"
"We have something in common, just come with me. I can explain, but not here."
I'm reluctant, but I get in the car with the stranger anyways.
"Where are we going?" I ask.
"A motel, just outside of Brooklyn. We really need to talk."
"Talk about what?"
"For starters, I've been hearing your name on repeat in my head for the past month. I got a really weird feeling so I got in my car and drove nearly six hours to find you. When I saw you jump from a twenty story building and stand up as if it hadn't happened, I knew it was you." He explains.
"So, what's your story?"
"I was a shadowhunter until I turned into a vampire in 1864. After that, I started to develop other "powers" which I believe you have too."
"Yeah, I just noticed today. I picked up a seraph blade and it was glowing red, can you believe that? Red!"
"I know. Same thing happened to me a hundred and fifty something years ago."
"Wait a second, Magnus said you were dead."
"I faked my death and moved to a small town in Virginia with another vampire, my brother."
"That's...intense."
"Tell me about it," he laughs, "you know, I expected you to be different."
"Sorry to dissapoint."
"Not dissapointed. Impressed, actually."
"How so?" I wonder.
"You look like someone I used to know, her name was Katherine. I guess I expect you to be as awful as her."
"Good thing I'm not. Although I have to admit I do like a little evil every once in a while."
"How convenient, me too."
"I like you, Damon. You're giving me some different vibes."
He just gives me a smile in return.
We pull into the parking lot of a small motel.
"We're room number 13." He states.
We walk up the stairs to the room labeled 13 in chipped paint.
I'm a little shocked when he holds the door open for me.
"You should turn your phone off, by the way. Your friends can track you."
I nod and turn it off.
"So, why did we need to come all the way out here to talk?" I ask.
"We're different. I wouldn't want anyone listening to this conversation. Especially a mundane, they'd think we're crazy."
I agree, "you're right. Where do we start?"
"At the beginning. Tell me everything that happened from the second you turned into a vampire, including how you turned."
I tell him everything from when vampire blood entered my system up until right now.
"So let me get this straight. You drank your friends blood to walk in the daylight? That's a little fucked up. We just have these rings."
"Don't let any New York vampires figure that out, they'll have a feild day."
"My transformation was a little different. My brother and I were turned by a bitch named Katherine Pierce. I was in love with her at the time, and so was my brother."
"Wait a second, she was with both of you at the same time?"
"Yep."
"What a bitch!"
"Uh huh. Worse part is that she turned us, then disappeared."
"So is your brother like us too?"
"Nope, Stefan got lucky. He's just a boring vampire."
"So, how do you control these weird powers we have?"
"I've had a hundred and fifty years to master it, but it was rather easy. I just had to learn to control my emotions, which sort of meant blocking them all out."
"So you were just emotionless?" I ask in shock.
"Not necessarily. By the way, if you turn your humanity off it gets much worse. You'll end up killing a ton of people."
"Turn off your humanity?" I question.
"You don't know about the humanity switch? New York vampires really are something else."
"This is a lot to handle, I'm going outside. I need some air." I state.
