TWO WEEKS LATER
"Good morning, Arabella." Raphael says softly as I open my eyes.
I smile, "good morning. What time is it?"
"Almost noon."
"Shit. I told Izzy I would meet her at twelve," I jump out of bed, "I have to get dressed."
"Leaving me so soon?"
"I'm sorry Raph, I promised Izzy-"
He cuts me off, "I'm joking. Go, have fun."
After getting dressed I kiss him goodbye and get a cab to the institute. Well, near the institute. I didnt want to make the poor man confused as to why I'm going to an abandoned church.
I see Isabelle, Jace, and Alec standing at the front door.
"Hey Izzy!" I smile as I walk over.
She hugs me.
"We exist too."
"I never thought I'd say this, but I've missed your sarcasm Jace."
"That makes one of us." Alec adds.
I hug Alec and ask Izzy where we're going.
"I wanted us to go shopping but the boys want food. Apparently what I make isnt good enough."
Jace chimes in, "not good enough? More like toxic."
"I hate to say it, but I agree with the guys. I haven't had food in a while. Where are we going?"
"How about that bar Maia works?"
"Who's Maia?" I ask.
"Simon's werewolf ex girlfriend, who Jace hooked up with." Izzy giggles.
"Alrighty then. Can't wait to meet her."
We get there and sit at a booth.
"Hey guys, drinks?" A girl asks as she approaches our table.
"Hey Maia, this is our friend Arabella." Izzy says.
"I think Simon has mentioned you before. You guys just missed him and Clary, by the way."
"Thank the angel." Jace mumbles.
"What can I get you guys to drink?"
Alec and Izzy get soda, and Jace gets a milkshake.
"Do you have any B negative?" I question.
"Just got some in!" She responds.
She's back in a few minutes with our drinks.
I take a sip and sigh in satisfaction. I haven't had blood this fresh in a while.
"Back to reality. Arabella, how's vampire life?" Izzy asks.
"Honestly, I'm bored. It's the same thing every day." I complain.
"That blows. But hey, it could be worse." Jace comments.
I scoff, "how so?"
"You could have to be around Alec and Izzy every day."
Isabelle smacks his arm.
"Hey guys, I gotta go. They need me back at the institute." Alec grumbled as he got up and left.
"And then there were three." I state.
Our food comes and I immediately dig in.
Jace chuckles, "I can't believe you just ordered a ton of french fries."
"Dude, I love french fries." I mumble, mouth full.
"When you guys are done eating we're going to the mall, wether you like it or not." Izzy demands.
After I ate what was probably like five pounds of french fries, we walk to the mall.
"What store first?" I ask Izzy.
"Gucci, duh."
As Isabelle walks into the store, Jace pulls my arm.
"Run." He whispers.
He pulls me into the 'employees only' section of Forever 21, which happened to be right across from the Gucci store.
"Why are we here?" I whisper.
"I didn't want to carry things while she shops."
"And how does that explain why we're in an employees only storage closet?"
"Well-"
I walk out into the store before he gets to finish his sentence.
"You really brought me into the wrong store." I laugh.
"Why is that?" He asks.
"You'll see."
I pull a few things I like off of the racks. By a few, I mean about a dozen.
I go to the changing rooms and put on the first outfit. Black jeans that lace up the sides and a red tube top, with the black heels I was already wearing.
"How's it look?" I ask Jace when I step out of the dressing room.
He doesn't say anything for a second.
"Is it that bad?" I ask.
"No no, it's good."
I roll my eyes and go back into the dressing room. I try on a short, dark red dress that fits my body nearly perfect.
"I like this one." I state.
Jace nods.
"You aren't very good at this." I chuckle.
"Good at what?"
"You're supposed to say I look hot. That's what Izzy would do."
"I'm not Izzy. Don't you have a boyfriend or something?"
"Something like that." I mumble.
He furrows his brows, "trouble in paradise?"
"No. Forget I said anything."
"You can talk to me about these things, you know. I won't make fun of you too hard."
"Thanks Jace, but I really don't want to dump guy trouble on you."
I turn to go back into the dressing room until I hear Jace's voice again.
"The dress looks amazing, by the way."
I smile at him, then go into the dressing room and change back into my normal clothes.
We go up to the cashier and hand her all of the clothes.
I look her in the eyes, "just bag them, I won't be paying."
She nods mechanically.
Jace scoffs.
"What's your problem?" I ask.
"That was a little messed up."
"Since when do you have morals?"
"Eh, good point."
We run into Isabelle about twenty minutes later.
"Where did you guys run off to?" She asks.
"Forever 21. I bought this red dress you're totally going to love."
"You didn't buy anything." Jace adds.
"You used your vampire-y powers?" She questions.
"Yep."
"Cool."
"Where to now?" Jace asks.
"I should be getting back to the Dumort, its starting to get dark."
"Boring." Jace mumbles.
I smack his arm and hug both of them.
"See you soon, okay?" I smile.
"You better." Izzy responds.
I walk back to the hotel and see Raphael yelling at two other guys.
"What's going on here?" I interrupt.
"Just go upstairs, this isn't any of your concern." He replies.
I ignore his attitude and go upstairs, changing into the dress I got today and a pair of thigh high boots.
Raphael comes up a few minutes later.
"What was that all about?" I question.
"It's nothing. They were just complaining."
"Okay." I state plainly.
"Okay?" He wonders.
"That's what I said." I snap back. I know they were talking about me, I heard my name.
"What did you do all day?" He asks me.
"Does it matter?"
'I was just wondering."
"The better question is what did you do?"
He hesitates for a second, "I just stayed here all day, discussed business."
"So I'm business now? I heard you talking about me being a dayligher."
"You misheard," he stutters, "we were talking about something else."
"Whatever, I'm leaving."
"You can't leave. I love you!" He insists.
"You love me? You don't love me. Did it ever occur to you that you have no idea who I really am? I know you just want me so you can find out how to walk in the sun. I'm not dealing with this anymore."
I start packing everything important into a suitcase.
"You aren't leaving me." He nearly growls.
"Watch me."
He grabs my arm so hard that it would leave bruises.
"Let me go!" I shout.
"Not until you tell me how you can walk in the sun!"
"Like this." I manage to kick my leg up and hit him in the neck, causing him to stumble back just long enough for me to run away, and out of the hotel.
I run to the institute as fast as I can. With vampire speed, it didnt take long.
I'm almost at the entrance when a shadowhunter, who I don't recognize, comes at me with a seraph blade.
