We were half way to the church when it happened.
The red stop light finally turned green. I was in the middle of the intersection, when the driver of a white pick-up truck hit the side of the car where both my parents were on. In that moment, I heard a loud bang, and everything went black, and I heard nothing.
I woke up to the sound of a beeping machine, bright lights, and the smell of disinfectant. As soon as I woke up, I was confused where I was because my parents weren't with me, then it hit me, and tears started falling. I was in a hospital because of a car crash, then I remembered, my parents were right where the impact was. The memory caused me to scream. Soon, nurses were running in, and trying to calm me, but nothing would work. "We have to sedate her," one of the nurses yelled. I felt a sharp pain in my arm, then everything went black again...
Throughout the night, I had woken up, and fought so many times that they finally given up on me, and just let me scream it out. Every time they would sedate me, I would have dreams about the crash, it was like it was on a never ending loop. The last time I fell asleep, I just let it happen, and didn't try to wake up. It was no use.
This time when I woke up, I didn't fight it. I just cried. I finally got the courage, to call a nurse in. I reached over on the bed, and pushed the "call nurse" button. Five minutes passed, and a nurse finally walked in. She didn't say a word at first, just checked the heart monitor. When she got close to me, I cringed because of how bad she smelled. She smelled like hospital.
"Are you done fighting now," the nurse asked rudely.
" I don't know, are you done being a bitch? Or are you just tired dealing with a 16 year old teenager," I returned the sass, but also got sarcastic just to make things interesting. That comment earned an eye roll.
"What do you want, you, you brat?"
"Good one. But I wanted to know how a lovely nurse like you, got a job at this place." Another eye roll, good. "Can I have another nurse, please?"
She walked out of the room pissed, and stomping her feet on the ground, my guess is she thought she lost. Oh well. A few lonely minutes passed, and another nurse walks in.
" Hi, my name is Samantha. Sorry about Brenda, she's a little, well a little..." Samantha smells like Brenda, and heads to the same machine that was just previously checked, why? I have no idea.
"A little bitch," I finished Samantha's sentence.
Samantha had a welcoming smile when she walked through the door, unlike Brenda who had a scowl on her face. Samantha, I like. Brenda, not so much.
"Exactly. Now, what can I help you with?"
"I have questions. What happened to me? What happened to my parents? Where am I? How long have I been here? What kind of..." I was cut off by the door opening. A police officer walked in.
"Sir, you need to leave," Samantha got done checking the annoying beeping machine, and started to walk over to the officer.
"Yes ma'am. But I need questions answered. Like today."
"Well, you will have to wait. Kimberly isn't up for any questions right now." With that, he walks away from the room.
"Can we get back to my questions," I ask without acknowledging the officer.
"Yes, we can. Kimberly, this isn't easy for me to say." I knew what she was about to say, so I let the tears fall...
