I sat on the side deck of the house in Austin, Texas as my mother was off doing her normal day thing. That meant coffee runs and getting her nails done.

I opened the beer that I had sitting on the table next to me as I went over the possibilities of where I could go next with my life.

I sat back when I saw that my next stop could be the Amazon. Spend a few weeks with a tribe getting to know their customs or head to Rio for 2 weeks of partying and some crazy blurred out nights.

I glanced over my shoulder when the door opened.

I got up when my mother walked into the house.

"What are you doing home?"

She laughed back at me, "I actually thought you would be gone, why are you home?"

"I don't know where to go next."

"It must be rough living your life, having paid vacations as your 40 hour work week."

I nodded my head back at her.

She turned back to me, "Did you ever go to that wedding?"

"That is the only reason I am home."

"What a shame, it was probably a waste of time, wasn't it?"

"It was something else." I glanced up at her. "Have you ever heard of a controlled person losing control?"

She stopped what she was doing and glared back at me, "Did you hunt this weekend?"

"No, I never hunt humans."

She nodded her head back at me, "Cali, you need to hear me out. Don't ever hunt humans, once you have that taste human blood you will only yearn for that."

"But Mom, you don't understand, I never drunk from a human! I am just saying that I got around someone and my body just shifted."

Mom glared back at me, "You got around someone?"

"Yea, I mean my veins turned black and my eyes, it just all went black."

She looked down at my hands. "Did you meet someone this weekend?"

"I really don't think so."

She went over to the book shelf and found something. She turned back to me, "So you have the desire for someone, someone that you will love for the rest of your life, someone that will be your mate until the end of days."

"No, you are still wrong. I wasn't falling in love with this person. I wanted to kill him."

My mother stopped and looked back at me, "You want to kill him?"

"I wanted to rip his skin from his body and just drink every ounce of blood from his body. I wanted to feed from him so badly."

"But you overcame it?"

"Of course I did mother, how else you think I am here right now."

She pointed down at the book, "Looks like you are facing another path."

"What do you mean another path?"

"Most of our kind finds people that we love by your age but you finding a person that you want to kill, that is something very rare."
