N stepped into the factory. Luckily, it wasn't that crowded since work hours hadn't started yet.
As she walked through the hallway, N snuck a pen off of a desk and continued on her way until she got to the picture. N took the cap off the pen and hesitated. Did her plan even make any sense? Would this even work?
Shaking the thoughts out of her head, she scribbled on the picture, then rushed to the other side of the hallway where someone else was coming from: Her boss.
"N, you're here early," he acknowledged.
"Yes, I'm just... really excited to work," N replied, chuckling nervously.
"In that case, could you give the mayor of Blue City a call? He wants a huge amount of thneeds for his city."
N nodded and walked to his office to use his phone. But the whole time, she felt a nagging sense of guilt in the pit of her stomach.

"Okay, a thousand thneeds... but you can't name your town 'Thneedville'. Why? Because there's already one and that would be confusing. Um... uh huh. Uh huh. Thneed city, eh? Okay, I'll talk to the man behind this and get right back to you," N said, switching the phone to her other ear as she gathered the files from The Once-ler's desk. "Okay, you too. Goodbye."
She hung up the phone and looked up, jumping back as she saw her boss open the door.
"Mr. Once-ler," she greeted, picking up the files. "Everything's settled except for one thing: Blue City wants to rename itself Thneed City. What should I tell them?"
"Huh. I'll have to think about that," he said, walking to his desk and sitting down.
As N started to head to the door, he called her back.
"Is something wrong?" She asked, shifting uncomfortably.
He couldn't have seen, right? He was coming from the other direction.
"It's been a full year since you started working here," Once-ler started, resting his hands on his desk and leaning closer. "In this time, I realized something. You are a great worker, N. And I'm so glad I hired such a trustworthy person."
N gulped, gripping the files in her hands.
"Thank you," she managed to say, avoiding his gaze.
"And I know you'll... Is something wrong?"
"I vandalized your picture!"
