Happenstance

Chapter X

Summer went by like it was just passing through; their grade 10 life was no different. They were all in different classes and they didn't have that much time to mingle with one another all they have is an hour during lunch time. They decided that at lunch they will all gather and talk about how their class is doing and they also talk about different upcoming events.

Their topic however is the recent issue that was caused because there was a conflict with a teacher; Ally felt like this particular teacher always picked on her. She was always called to answer a question she didn't know about. The teacher's way of talking to her was also different and it bothered Ally. Mars also had conflict with the same teacher. He suspected that the teacher was a stalker. She was similar to a spy he said to the 4 girls apparently the saide teacher heard him and he was called out for it.

Mars: Can you believe she called me out just because of a simple joke?

Ally: At least she left you off the hook. Even if we already talked about our differences, she still acts cold towards me.

Anya and Yanna just listened to their conversation intently not knowing they too had a story they couldn't share to Mars and Ally. You see, Anya and Yanna talked to the cold teacher. They were asked very personal questions but Anya and Yanna answered them as honest as possible so that they wouldn't be part of the conflict.

Anya: Should we tell them that the cold teacher talked to us in private?

Yanna: I don't know I'm quite confused too.

Anya: I think we should tell them though

Yanna: Ok if that's what you think 

Brooke wasn't there at lunch when the conversation was going on; she was too busy making her assignments.

Yanna: Guys, Anya and I have to say something.

Anya: Actually, we are a bit scared if we should even say this information to you guys because we kind of promised that we wouldn't tell anyone.

Yanna: The cold teacher talked to us. She asked us if Ally was always like that to everyone. We were dumb founded about it but we did try to answer it all honestly.

Anya: We didn't tell you guys sooner because we might get caught telling you and we didn't want the issue to be bigger than it already is.

Yanna: We hope you can forgive us.

Ally and Mars were shocked with the new information that they gained but they weren't really mad about it. They were very understanding and they were glad that Anya and Yanna told them.

Ally: Don't worry I'm not mad in fact I'm glad that you told me. I don't care about that issue a single bit.

Mars: I'm just glad the issue already ended.

Anya: What else should we talk about?

Ally: Maybe let's talk about how we all changed in a span of a year.

 Mars: I don't think we changed a bit.

Yanna: We did change but in a good way. I used to be so quiet and almost invisible some even say I'm mute because I rarely talk but know I'm almost like a buffoon who talks non-stop whenever I'm with you guys.

Anya: I didn't really change that much but I did learn to be more responsive when I'm in a conversation. I'm barely using my phone when I'm talking to you guys and that's a big improvement to me.

Mars: I'm not usually very open about my opinions because people always tried to pick on me about it. I didn't really care if they like me or not but I am glad that I found you guys who I can openly be myself.

Ally: I really have a hard time trusting friends because most of the time I always feel like those friends betray me and just spread some rumors about me. I am happy that you always say your thoughts if ever I'm making you guys uncomfortable.

Brooke suddenly arrives and upon hearing the conversation, she also shared what changed in her personality.

Brooke: Well, I learned to understand the opinions of others sometimes I don't really care if their opinions clash with mine. I also learned to open up my feelings instead of always keeping them to myself. 

Ally: Let's stop talking about the drama and let's finally decide on a name that we can call ourselves.

The five friends thought long and hard about what they should call themselves.

Yanna: I think that we should just be called Lunchmates since we usually talk during lunch time.

Anya: I like our group to be called The Dollar squad even if we don't have any money in our pockets.

Brooke: I still think The Late Comers is appropriate though since we were all late on the first day last year.

Ally: I don't want to be called the The Dollar squad since it sounds funny but why not we combine The Late Comers and Lunchmates name.

Mars: I like that idea the name won't be common and only the five of us will know its meaning.

Ally: Then it is decided we shall call ourselves The Late Lunchmates!

Yanna: It is uncommon but it does sound a bit weird.

Anya: That's the point, we are a bit weird people you know.

The Late Lunchmates name was formed because if you recall they were all late in their first day of class in Grade 9 and currently all their catching up together were made during lunch thus the term lunch mates.

It is a weird name for some but that is how the five friends perceive themselves, weird people.

Lunch time was always an awaited time for The Late Lunch mates. They managed to survive all the stress and paper work Grade 10 has to offer. All the exams that they studied together, all the bonding moments together, all the negative moments that were turned into laughing matters were also memorable.

Finally the moment they have waited all year came. It was time for them to move up to Senior high school.

The Moving Up Ceremony was a very sad and joyous occasion all at once. They were happy that all their efforts paid off and that they are a step closer to their dreams but sad because they will be separated at an even greater distance. They will be in different college programs and they will all be going to different schools for senior high school.
