Just By Being You

Part 1

Presley Baker was use to being invisible even though she was best friends with 3 of the most popular girls at her high school. She was a blue eyed dark brown haired girl who hid behind her glasses and romance novels since the 6th grade. When she was in the 7th grade her dad got remarried to her best friend Natasha's mom Natalia and made the girls who had been best friends since Kindergarten sisters. They were beyond excited to be sisters and when they had to move to a bigger house they were excited that they had rooms that were connected by a bathroom. 

It was Natasha's birthday and the weekend before sophomore year started for them. Natasha wanted a pool party for her birthday so she invited all of her friends including her boyfriend's Steve Rogers football buddies. They were all hanging out by the pool having a good time except Presley she was hiding up in her room. Her dad came in and said "Presley baby please go enjoy your sister's party stop hiding up here sweetheart." 

"Daddy I don't want to please just let me be." She whispered 

"Pres honey come on Nat wants to come downstairs Carol and Wanda are down there they are asking for you." Natalia said 

"Fine." Presley said 

She pulled out her bikini out of her dresser and went to put it on. She pulled her hair up and went downstairs and she walked out the door and Wanda hugged her and said "There you are where have you been hiding." 

"oh you know my room." she whispered 

Bucky was talking to Steve and said "Who is that?"

"Who?" Steve said

"The girl talking to Wanda." Bucky said 

"Come on Buck you know who that is?" Clint said 

"No I don't I have never seen her before." Bucky said

"Bucky that's Presley we have all known her since Kindergarten she's Natasha's best friend and in recent years she's become her stepsister." Steve said

"I have never seen her before." Bucky said 

Natasha overheard the conversation with the boys and said "Bucky how could you not know who she is...her last name is Baker which makes her in your homeroom every year since middle school and she's always had to sit close to you." 

"I'm serious I don't know who she is but she is beautiful." Bucky said 

Natasha said "Hold on a second." Natasha went to get her sister and pulled her over to the boys and said "Presley Baker." 

"What's going on Nat?" Presley said 

"Bucky doesn't remember you." Natasha said 

"Well why would he know me Nat I'm not the type of girl he looks at. He usually goes for the cheerleader or the girl that will spread her legs and I'm neither of those things. So I'm not surprised that the most popular boy in school hasn't noticed me." Presley said as she walked off. 

"You use to be a cheerleader Pres." Nat said 

"Yeah and we saw how well that worked out." She said as she turned back around to Natasha

Presley had enough socializing so she went up to her room and got dressed and then went out on the front porch and sat on her porch swing and started to read her book with tears falling. Everyone started to leave and Bucky seen her sitting on the porch swing.

"So this is where you disappeared to?" Bucky said 

"I hope you are not expecting me to apologizie for what I said." she said to him

"No I um I deserved that." he said 

"You use to pull my pig tails in kindergarten and 1st grade." she said to him 

"Oh." Bucky said 

"Still not ringing any bells am I." She said 

"Not really." he said 

"Im gonna go finish my book like I said I"m not surprised at all. I'm not your type." she said as she got up off the swing and went inside. 

Bucky got on his 4 wheeler and headed home and he got all of his yearbooks out and started to look through the years to see how he could of missed Presley. By the time he got to 7th grade it was clear the reason why he missed her was because she wore glasses and hid herself away. But Natasha was right their last names meant that they had to be close by in class and be in homeroom together. 

Meanwhile Natasha and the girls were trying to convince Presley to come back to cheerleading and dance. "Guys seriously I don't want to embarrass myself again ok just drop it." 

"My mom is the coach now Presley." Nat said 

"And I know you have been going to a gymnastics class Presley." Wanda said 

"Nat and Wanda is right Pres come on we miss having by our side." Carol said 

"You all weren't there cause you all had already made the team was able to go home. I messed up my back tuck and lost my balance when they put me up in the air and messed up that tuck too." Presley was talking about her try out for middle school cheer squad.

"That was then you were going through a lot Presley your parents had just gotten divorced nobody blames you for having a lot on your mind back then." Natasha said

"Come on I bet you could still do it." Wanda said as she got up off the lawn chair she was sitting in.The girls got into position to put her up in the air and Nat said "Now do your tuck."and she did it and landed a little wobbly. Natalia came out when she seen what the girls were doing with Presley and said "Do it again Presley." The girls put her back up and she did it again and after few more tries she was able to land perfectly. 

"Now let's work on that back tuck on the ground." Carol said 

They all 4 started to do gymnastics in the grass and her dad Joe came out and said "Presley doing gymnastics with the girls I haven't seen this in years." 

"I know I hope this means she's coming to the try out." Natalia said

That night Steve called Bucky to make sure he was alright cause he was quiet the rest of Nat's party after Presley said what she said. 
"Hey man you alright." Steve said

"Yeah I just um that thing that Presley said about me just has me thinking that's all." Bucky said 

"Buck what do you mean?" Steve said 

"I don't know that maybe I shouldn't be so much of an asshole I guess I don't know. I will see you at football practice in the morning ok." Bucky said. 

Steve called Nat and said "I think we have a problem." 

"What?" Nat said 

"That big speech that Presley made to Bucky about her not being surprised by him not seeing her has him thinking that he's been a real ass to girls like Presley." Steve said

"Good..Presley is a good girl Steve she didn't mean to piss him off or hurt his feelings. She was just stating the truth the fact that he couldn't even remember pulling her hair in elementary school speaks volumes Steve." Natasha said 

"Ugh you are no help." Steve said 

"Well I at least helped someone tonight and that was my sister I've convinced her to try out tomorrow and I've got a plan since Bucky seems to like her cause I'm sure that's why he's feeling the way he is." Natasha said 

"What is this plan of yours." Steve said 

"You will see...just make sure you get the boys to the try out tomorrow." Natasha said 

"OK." he said

They hung up the phone and Natasha went to bed.
