"WHOOSH"

Diana accelerated her speed passing Anne with a sly smile.

Both girls rushed inside, Anne though was a very stubborn girl and was not going to let Diana win, she sped up only looking at the back of Diana, following her every step in attempt to catch up.

As Anne raced to catch up she didn't notice the one curly haired boy who she was about to collide with

"THUMP"

"SORRY GILBERT" Anne said as she kept running, still determined on beating Diana.

"It's okay" Gilbert said but Anne was fast gone before Anne could here one word. Gilbert chuckled as he saw the fiery girl run off.

"HA YES, I WON" Diana says as she sat on her desk, trying to catch her breath.

Anne rolled her eyes as she took her seat next to her. Ever since Anne could remember she has had a difficulty admitting defeat and that race was no different,

"Morning Class, welcome back from spring break" Ms. Stacy says as she entered the classroom setting her case down at her desk.

"Wonderful morning Ms.Stacy" Anne said cheerfully.

Ms.Stacy shot her a friendly smile which made Anne fill with happiness.

See, Anne was very fond of Ms. Stacy, she was one of her role models along with Marilla and Josephine Barry. Anne was sure Ms. Stacy was a kindred spirit at heart.

"Well let's get right in to today's lesson, the progressive mothers have insisted on teaching today's lesson thoroughly, something about shaping students to fit society, which I find quite unnecessary, I was hoping to be able to skim through this lesson quickly and be able to teach something more exciting, but fate has not turned my way" Ms. Stacy begins explaining as she starts writing something on the board.

"She believes in fate!" Anne whisper shouts to Diana excitedly. Every day Anne loved Ms. Stacy more and more.

"Lady and gentlemen etiquette of dancing" Ms. Stacy writes.

Anne sighs she hoped for class to be more exciting than just dancing. Don't get her wrong she enjoys dancing just not the type they consider formal, she liked the twirling and jumping kind of dancing not the boring formal type.

"After teaching this lesson we will perform it at the town hall hence the progressive mothers want to see how well you picked up the material" Ms. Stacy says trying to hide her annoyance.

"Well let's begin, may I get two volunteers?" Ms. Stacy asked

Anne quickly shot her hand up, she loved being the center of attention, well not always...

"PRINCESS CORDELIA DANCE FOR US" says girl #1

"JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!" Anne screams.

"YOU'LL ALWAYS BE A WRETCHED LITTLE MOUSE" says girl #2 as the other girls laugh and giggle.

''SQUEAK, SQUEAK, SQUEAK'' The girls yell in unison.

''LEAVE ME ALONE''

"Anne, I said you can come up" Ms.Stacy repeated.

"Oh sorry" Anne said as she heard Josie Pye chuckle behind her.

"And Diana you too" Ms.Stacy said sweetly.

Anne's worries left her as she heard Ms.Stacy call up her kindred spirit, they both silently squealed.

"No way, it can't be two girls, it has to be a boy and girl or the dance won't work" Josie Pye said bitterly.

"Well that's not entirely true" Ms.Stacy said.

Anne smiled, she added one more thing to her mental list of why she loved Ms.Stacy, she didn't seem to fit in to society's perception.

"But for the sake of teaching the dance correctly, I'm sorry Diana but I'm going to have to replace you with...." she paused looking around the room. Diana let out a sigh she was looking forward to dancing with Anne.

"Hmm....Gilbert, if you may" Ms.Stacy said.

Diana's disappointed look was suddenly replaced with a grin as soon she heard Gilbert's name.

"Not a problem Ms.Stacy" Diana said cheerfully as she headed back to her seat.

Gilbert looked up from his book, he had stopped paying attention as soon as Ms. Stacy had written the words "etiquette" and "dancing".

Yet he didn't seem at all bothered to be picked to dance with Anne.

Anne on the other hand was still disappointed she didn't get to dance with her bosom friend, all because of that sour Josie Pye.

"Gilbert, put your hand on Anne's waist and Anne put your hand around his neck" Ms. Stacy directed.

Both Anne and Gilbert shyfully did so, keeping a significant distance between each other which Ms. Stacy did not approve of, she softly pushed Anne towards Gilbert making them collide chests, Anne felt a shock of electricity but was soon to ignore it and put it in the back of her mind.

"Very well begin, I assume you know the steps" Ms. Stacy said.

Gilbert and Anne nodded and began dancing.

Anne and Gilbert began looking at each other. Not looking away for even a split second. Like if in each other's eyes was a shiny pearl they couldn't look away from.

"THUMP"

Gilbert tripped on Anne's foot nearly falling as Anne catched him. But neither one of them moved a muscle, they just stayed there admiring the view of each other's eyes.

It was like time stopped... until they heard the loud cough of one Ruby Gillis resuming time and making Anne let go of Gilbert, which made Gilbert fall to the ground .

"Uh very well Gilbert and Anne take your seats" Ms. Stacy said clearing her throat.

Anne abruptly walked back to her seat still not saying a word.

Diana on the other hand had the biggest smirk plastered on her face like it was all part of her master plan.

Well at least I got even with Gilbert, he saved me from Billy and I saved him from falling, Anne thought to herself. Even though she did drop him at the end, Anne still counted it as saving him.
