Y/N never had a great mental state.
She was either stressing out, or breaking down.
The last time she broke down his heart broke.
He noticed her curtains were closed that night.
That was the first thing that came to his mind - the first thing that led him to believe she was not okay.
He never even heard her crying, when he walked into the room and sat down beside her it seemed like she was just dozing off on her leg - not crying.
He kept asking her what was wrong, why she was crying.
"Everything's such a mess.."
Finn was tired of seeing her so broken, so he told her to relax. He told her to just let go for a little while. To let him take care of everything and for her to just focus on schoolwork and living her life.
"Just dream a little bit."
She was doing better now.
Sure she had her nights when he would have to hold her close, rocking her back and forth until she stopped crying.
Thing is, he wouldn't open up to her now.
She questioned it - of course - but he never gave a full answer.
It was always, "It's nothing, don't worry." or "I just don't want you worrying."
She was getting tired of it.
One night, though, she got the chance to listen to his problems.
To listen to all the things he'd shielded her from.

Y/N set her bag down on the table as she said 'hello' to Nick. She was well acquainted with the Wolfhards, seeing as she'd always been close with Finn - whether they were dating or not.
Nick was the one who called them getting together.
As Y/N skipped up the stairs, she grew curious as to why Finn wasn't waiting for her.
He always was the first one she saw when she came over.
He would wait for her outside, on his porch - eager to see his girlfriend.
"Finn?" She called out, wondering if he was even home.
She told him she was coming today, even told him she'd be over there right after she finished babysitting the neighbor's child.
"Finn?" She called out again, pushing at his door, only to find it locked. "Finn, open your door." She knocked a couple of times, but no response.
"Finn, open your door - please." She said again, panicking. She had no idea why his door was locked - his family never locked doors.
"Finn I swear to god I'm going to kick this door down."
As Y/N became more nervous, she ran back downstairs and grabbed a penny out of her bag.
Nick had given her a questioning look, but she hadn't seen it.
Y/N ran back upstairs, fiddling with the penny to unlock Finn's room. She turned the doorknob to see him curled up on his bed.
She rushed over to him, prying his arms from around his knees, checking his wrists for any damage.
She sighed a sigh of relief as she sat in front of him - realizing he hadn't done what she had thought.
Her eyes started to tear up at the sight.
"Go away." He said with a stern tone. She jumped at it, but raised her hand to pull his face up.
She wanted to see how bad he was.
His eyes were so bloodshot, and tears were streaming down his face. His expression was so angry, like he was about to snap.
"I said get out." He said again, his body was shaking now.
Y/N bit her lip as she crawled on the bed beside him. Y/N wrapped her arms around him as he whimpered.
"Stop, I don't want to put this on you." His voice was cracking frantically - normally she'd make fun of him for it, but she could tell this wasn't the time.
"What's going on?" She asked, her voice was gentle, soothing.
It calmed him down.
"There's- no, I'm fine. Just go downstairs, I'll meet you in a little." He cracked, pulling away from her.
She furrowed her eyebrows.
"Finn, I'm doing better now, you can stop guarding me from everything."
Finn didn't look at her.
"I'm sick and tired of you acting like I can't handle it."
Finn turned around at this.
He didn't speak, he just looked at her.
"I don't know why I thought I could do it alone. All the shit in this world is just so much, and I understand it now. I understand why you always said that you needed me, because I need you."
"I need you to help me."
Y/N crawled back over to him, wrapping her arms around him with care.
He gave in to her, resting his face on her chest as she held him close.
He cried, making her shirt wet, but she didn't mind.
Y/N started crying too. "Just tell me, okay? Whenever something happens let me know, no more hiding. I can handle it."
Finn smiled, and Y/N was a bit confused.
"I know you can."
"I know you can."
