You awoke on your soft bed to a gentle sensation, like someone was running their fingers through your hair; you sighed in pleasure, then turned onto your side. Sure enough, the beautiful angel lying next to you was twisting your shiny locks, and then combing the tendrils loose again.

“I’m sorry, did I wake you?” Castiel asked quietly, fingers frozen in place. His voice was huskier than usual, a typical morning voice after a night’s sleep; but you knew that he hadn’t slept at all. You chuckled lightly, intertwining one of your hands with his.

“You didn’t, so don’t be sorry; it was a nice feeling to wake up to.” You then laid your head against Cas’ warm chest to hear the rumble that goes through it whenever he speaks. “So, what did you do the whole time while I was asleep?”

“I tried reading one of your books,” he confessed, and you smiled slightly.

“Oh, yeah? And how was it?”

“It was quite interesting, and I was very engaged in it. My interest faded very quickly, though, because I found you more fascinating. As always.”

“I was sleeping, that barely seems like it’s worth watching.”

“You seem so calm when you’re asleep…relaxed, even after the horrible things that you see day by day,” Castiel pondered, and even though you could barely see his face in the dim light you knew his eyebrows were knitted together in complex worry.

You put the hand that wasn’t locked with Cas’ on his face, your fingertips tracing the journey from his hairline to his jaw over and over again. Your heart swelled when he leaned into your touch, and you admitted softly, “I can only be that calm when the angel I love is right next to me.” When the words left your lips, you felt a warm rush, like a river surging freely under your touch. Even though the darkness still had a bit of time to fade, you could just see the crimson stretching over his nose and cheeks, just as beautiful and slow as the sun rising outside of your bedroom window.

“I don’t think I’ll ever completely adjust to these feelings…adoration and love,” the divine being Mused. “You always manage to invade my mind until my every other though flees.”

“I’ll take that as a compliment,” you whispered blissfully, and brought your lips to his. His hands were at your sides almost instantly, the pads of his calloused fingers rough against your skin as he hummed in happiness. The kiss ended after his tongue had glided over your bottom lip, and he smiled into your mouth.

“I think it’s time that we get ready for the day,” he murmured, and you hesitantly agreed, hopping out of the bed you didn’t want to leave.

Not more than ten seconds later, the angel turned back on his words when he brought you into one more slow, deep kiss, pressing you against the doorframe. Even though you were aching to sink back into your feather mattress with him, you decided not to let things get carried away. It was easier than you thought it would be, even though he was making it harder by gently grazing his teeth over your lip, making you shiver.

“Cas,” you said his name in a hushed tone against his lips. “The day. I already told you; don’t start something that you can’t finish right away.” He sighed as the reminder lingered in the air, and unwillingly took his mouth from yours, and smiled widely.

“I remember.”

You then left him with a peck on the cheek, skipping to the kitchen to officially start the morning. You opened the curtains to let buttery rays of light into the house, and then turned on the radio to your favorite station so you could listen to some good music while preparing coffee. You sang along to the songs, swinging your hips and letting you hair fly freely behind you while the machine ejected the caffeinated drink that you would need.

Little did you know, Castiel was standing in the entrance to the kitchen, leaning against the wall. His heart-melting gaze was following your every move, his eyes full of the passion that he only reserved for you. He took in every single detail of you, committing them to his memory for what seemed like at least the hundredth time. As you gracefully danced, he noted how the motes of dust whirled around you in their own kind of dance. The shimmering light of the sun was now shining brightly throughout the room, and Cas had to catch his breath because the color of warmth had cascaded over you, bathing your every feature in a golden glow. Taking the angel’s breath away wasn’t a hard thing for you to do (he would never admit it, though), but when you did, his heart couldn’t help but stutter.

His arms twitched, and in an instant, they were wrapped around your waist, saving him the agonizing seconds it would take to stride over to your fluid body. You put your arms around his neck, your fingers tugging at his deep brown hair at the nape. Castiel’s forehead was touching yours, his azure eyes darkening with affection. The two of you were silent, slowly swaying back and forth to the music, as if speaking or moving too fast would break the wordless communication between you and the angel.

And that’s exactly what Cas’ cell phone did.

The device was ringing on the table, and because of the Led Zeppelin ringtone, you knew for sure that it was Dean calling.

“Damn it,” Cas cursed, and you giggled. He quickly regained his halcyon composure and picked it up, one hand still lingering at your hip. “Yes, Dean? Yes. We’ll be there soon. Goodbye.”

“Hunting job?” you asked, and even though you already knew the answer, you still waited for his nod.

“They just seem to come into our responsibility endlessly, don’t they?”

You fixed Cas’ crooked tie before answering. “Well, hunting is what brought us together, isn’t it? For that reason, I don’t find it horrible thing to invest my time in.”

“I suppose it isn’t,” he said in reply, and pressed his lips to your temple before moving down your face until he reached your mouth, embracing it with his. There were small whispers of professing your love for each other in between kisses, and both of you decided that the Winchesters could wait just a bit longer.

You knew, and would always know that even if the creatures of the night were unpredictable, mornings with Castiel would always be filled with ceaseless love.
