Three days. I had exactly three days to find (Y/N) the perfect birthday present. Today, tomorrow, and the day after. For anyone else, (besides Sam of course) I wouldn’t have made a single consideration as to what a fitting gift would be. I would simply purchase a gift card and not think twice about it. This was (Y/N) though. She was different from any other person I knew, and she deserved the best.

'What would she want for her birthday? Would I even be able to find a gift pleasing enough for her?'

These thoughts, and many that were similar, remained to linger in my mind until I was pulled out of my thoughts. “You okay, Dean? You’ve been staring off into space for quite a while now…” My brother Sam said. I nodded, but didn’t make eye contact. After a few seconds of silence, I lifted my head to face him. “What do girls like as presents?” I asked him.

He smiled. “Can’t think of anything for (Y/N)?” He questioned. Nodding no this time, I continued. “I really want to get her something she’ll love. It’s her birthday, after all. Why should I have any reason not to get her the best present possible? I really want to get her something that will make her happy.” Sam laughed. “You really like her, don’t you?”

Rolling my eyes, I got up to leave. “Oh, forget about it.”

Once I was back in my room, I sat down, continuing to ponder about what I should get. Nothing in particular came to mind, and my frustration grew. Maybe I should just go to the store and see what I can find. Deciding on just that, I got my keys and set off.

'Nothing. There was absolutely nothing that even came close to being a good enough present. Damn those stores.'

Thinking for a bit longer, I was struck with an idea. ‘I could make (Y/N) a birthday present! All I had to do was make something that she really needs, and it would be perfect! There was just one problem. What did she need? ‘I”ll just ask her about it.‘

As if on queue, she knocked on my door, opening it slightly. “Hey sweetie.” She greeted with her nickname for me, smiling her beautiful and friendly smile right at me. “You don’t happen to know where my family dagger is, do you? I misplaced it somehow.” Although she remained smiling, I could sense the sadness in her voice. The dagger she normally used was passed down in her family; something that she no longer had, thanks to the demons of the world. It had originally belonged to her great-grandfather, making it very special to her.

“No, sorry. I’ve got an extra pocket-knife if you need it.” I offered her. “Oh, that’s okay. Thanks though.” She rejected my offer with a soft voice and left the room. I really felt bad for her. Since she was the only one left of her family, that dagger had meant a lot to her. Just as expected, it meant family history.

Not knowing what else to do, I let out a sigh. I really felt bad for her. There wasn’t much I could do but feel sorry for her, which, despite my obvious feelings for the girl, I did not want to do right now. Due to the being stressed about this whole birthday situation, I let sleep overtake me.
