After having a meal, Ollie and Sol spent the day scouting their territory, getting rid of any unwanted guests. After getting back to their home they were greeted by an intruder. He was a dark grey color, almost black, with bright green eyes. He was wearing a red bandana, so Ollie thought he was a pet.
“I was wondering how much longer you were going to make me wait.” He said.
“Who are you?” Ollie asked.
“My name is Graphite, and I am here to take you home.” He said. “Ollie, I’m your father.”
“You aren’t my father.” Ollie said. “I killed my father.”
“You killed your mother and littermates.” Graphite said. “I escaped with major injuries, which is why I have lost a leg.”
He stood up, revealing his one hind leg.
“You can’t prove that you are my father.” Ollie said.
“You’re an elemental winged dog, your home is on Clamkeet Island.” He said. “I too am a winged dog, I was one of the few that were sent here to find more land to colonize. I fell in love with one of my teammates, and you were the result. You are banned from the island”
“If you are of my species, why don’t you have wings?” Ollie asked.
“I do have wings.” Graphite replied. “But most of us have to summon our wings.”
“Then do it.” Ollie said. “If you truly have wings summon them right here right now.”
“Okay.” He said. “Time to shake these dusted wings, time to spread these wings and fly.”
Graphite extended his cobalt blue wings.
“How come your wings and blue and mine are red?” Ollie asked.
“Wing color is not genetic.” Graphite replied. “And the fact that you have horns mean you must be the dog of death, one of the four legendary winged dogs. With your help we can uncover the other three legendaries, dog of time, dog of shadows, and dog of sound.”
“How do you know when someone is a legendary winged dog?” Ollie asked.
“You look for things that normal winged dogs don’t have.” Graphite said. “You have horns and bright red wings that you don’t have to summon. No other winged dog has those and they always have to summon their wings.”
“I don’t know if I trust you.” Ollie said. “Anyone can make up a story like that.”
“Fine, you don’t have to trust me.” Graphite said. “When you do decide to trust me come find me. I’ll be near the shelter.”
Graphite gave them one last look, and ran off. Later in the day, Sol wandered off to find Graphite. She wanted to know more about the winged dogs, and why she had neither seen them nor heard of them before.
“Graphite, are you here?” Sol asked.
“What brings you here little one?” Graphite asked.
“I was with Ollie when you came by earlier, and I just wanted to learn more about winged dogs.” Sol replied.
“Well, we aren’t just winged dogs, we are elemental winged dogs.” Graphite said. “We are divided into two groups, neutral, and elemental, neutral winged dogs are just dogs that don’t have elements, elemental winged dogs are broke into four more groups, fire, water, air, and earth.”
“Those aren’t elements.” Sol said.
“Not those elements, outdoor elements.” Graphite said. “Anyway, water elements are strong against fire and weak against air, fire is strong against earth and weak against water, earth is strong against air and weak against fire, air is strong against water and weak against earth.”
